Microsoft Turns Windows Explorer into Utter Chaos

Not that this has anything to do with GPSs and not real sure why it made news today but I liked the headline.

I believe the quote is from an update published this month.

sure if you believe in time traveling as well. On planet earth today is Sep 7 or 8 depending where you live.

The update you mentioned was published on Sep 11:

Update 11-Sep: Several commenters have made a good case for a handful of utilities that include registry repair and cleaning options.

It means it was published in September 2011

yet another possibility.

yet another possibility. However, I believe it was an update on 11 Sep 2005 but yeah I may be wrong. The latest comments were date stamped in 2009.

Additional Info:
I was right. Internet archive "Wayback Machine" took a snapshot of the site in 2010. Here's how it looks:

The "11-Sep" update was there back then.

Haven't seen it yet,

Haven't seen it yet, probably will take some getting use to it, like when they went from Office 2003 to 2007. While I am used to 2010 now, I think I still like the old (2003) interface better.

CCleaner Is Free

Look at freeware CCleaner here:

A very good Swiss Army Knife of tools, including a registry cleaner.

Larry

I've used CCleaner for years. Great program in my opinion. There is only one version and it is FREE. Their product page (which was recently revamped) is better than it used to be, but is still not clear about the differences in the 3 choices.

For FREE, you get the exact same CCleaner program. There is a very good user forum available if you have questions or problems with many helpful, knowledgeable members, just like here at The POI-Factory. arrow http://forum.piriform.com/

For $24.95 you get the exact same CCleaner program with Priority Technical Support. You are paying for the support.

For $39.95 you get the exact same CCleaner program with Premium Business Support. Again, you are paying for the support.

Just wanted to clear that up. smile

Microsoft Defends

Microsoft defends the use of the "ribbon" in Windows Explorer 8:

I haven't used Windows

I haven't used Windows Explorer in years. If you want a good, simple, configurable, powerful file manager then get Total Commander:

knocks the socks off Exploder.

If your

Total Commander is a really good file manager but it really isn't correct to say that you aren't using Windows Explorer. If your using a Windows PC your using Explorer as it is also the component of the operating system that presents many user interface items on the monitor such as the taskbar and desktop.

How true that is

Without windows explorer you will have no desktop at all. As stated that means icons (shortcuts), tasks in the tray, the tray itself, system clock, etc.

windows shell

There are replacements to the windows shell also if you want to completely get rid of windows explorer. Some examples are Emerge Desktop and SharpEnviro.
