nuvi 1490T problem (map symbols for my favorites)

On my brand new 1490T when I edit the map symbol of any of my favorites, the symbol on the map remains the default tiny square, even though the new symbol I have chosen is shown on the screen that appears when the new symbol is chosen. (I have already set my "Home" location). Here is the sequence I am using from the home screen: Where To/Favorites/All Favorites/Home/Press for More. At this point, the symbol shown is the one I have changed to, but it will not change on the map.

Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Thanks

As I recall

As I recall there was another post regarding that issue. If I recall properly Garmin did away with map sympols on some units because they stated they had complaints that the map was to busy. I think it was a firmware update that created the problem.

Info here also.

problem introduced with 5.20 firmware

I read on another forum that Garmin are aware of the issue, and say they are working to fix it.

Mine does same thing

My 1490t has the latest updates. I had never tried changing the favorite symbols before just now.
When I have more than just a few favorites, I move them to a CSV file called LOCALS. Then I load them into Custom POI. I do have a unique bmp for that file that is displayed.

I've been trying to figure this out on my 1350 also. My nuvi 250W shows the symbols just fine and both units have the latest updates. Glad to see it's not just my nuvi!

You can read the thread "Dear Garmin" >>>

here is the answer to your question:

Here is the direct quote>>>

was an intentional move on their part! The CS rep that replied claimed that they received feedback from customers that the screen was "too busy" and they took the action they did to make the icons all black dots.

IDIOTS!

Seriously? That's just plain stupid on their part. With all the traveling I do, I rely on the icons. I just shake my head at this move...

C&P from my e-mail:

For the issue with the points of interest showing the dot. We had many customers that thought the detailed information on the screen was to lets say busy so it was changed. I will gladly pass along the request and that detailed information may come back to the map detail.

icons

Seems to me that the people that think the map is "too busy" with icons should have changed THEIR symbols to black dots. Then the rest of us that wanted to keep the symbols would have been okay. Oh well, thanks for taking the choice out of that one Garmin.
