2460 software & map upgrade problems

I had a 1490 for 2 weeks until i realized that the new maps were too big for it. Back it went and I now own a 2460 which is a much better unit...except for the updates. My 1490 updated the software and maps with no problems.

My 2460 software update appears to work but Communicator says another update is available. I update again and another one is available. Seems like I could do this forever (I stopped after 4).

Now to Lifetime Map Updater. It downloaded an update and when it goes to install says "error installing try again or contact Garmin". I tried again and same problem.

Any ideas? I'll probably try and call Garmin but don't know what type of adventure that is.

I had the same problem with

I had the same problem with my 2460. I ditched the Lifetime Map Updater and downloaded the new map without it,worked great. As for the software update, I did the same thing and finally checked in the GPS for the software version to find that it had the same version every time.

Worked for me

The following if from another thread that worked for me. Might be worth a try for you...

Not sure why you'd get the "search for device" button on an update but since you seem to have it do the following:

- look under Settings and if your device is listed there, click on the X icon to delete it.

- now, with your Nuvi attached to the computer, click on Add New

- Once the Nuvi is added to the Devices list, click Done to take you back to the main screen. It should now say Check for Updates.

- Once you see the Check for Updates box you should be able to click that button any time whether the Nuvi is attached to the computer or not.

Did just as you said and it worked great.
Thank you.

When I went to delete the gps it said an update was in progress. I deleted it and got the old error popup.

I closed the program then plugged in my nuvi, the went back into settings and it was still there so I deleted it and it deleted ok then.

I added the nuvi back and the button has "Check for updates". Thanks so much."

I have two 2460's and they seem to be in a never ending loop with the "software update avaliable" after trying to "update" the first one several times I compared the software version "2.50" on both, that is they were the same even though I had not updated the second at that time. Tried updating the second unit with the same results.

Maps installed fine on both with no problem. I wonder if I should have updated the software first, or if that even matters?
