New Update 2012.20 (map screen still shows 2012.10)

Hi- I have been searching threads and can't find the answer to this one. I did the update and on the maps screen info it still shows ""CN North America NT 2012.10" It is just the lower 49 SE states. Now I have another listing for the new update. Is here going to be another "CN North America" for every update that comes out? I thought it would overwrite it. Thanks!

Something isn't right, you

Something isn't right, you might contact Garmin support and find out why it does not register 20.12

Try a hard reset.

Be Explicit!

In the future, being explicit in describing your issues goes a long way here. You refer to a map screen, but what map screen are you referring to: on the GPS or Mapsource/Basecamp? Such information can help us pin down the problem far easier.

In any event, if it's the GPS that is still showing 2012.10, then the maps on the GPS were never updated. If this is the case, you should have the maps on your computer's hard drive, ready to install to the GPS using MapInstall.

If it's MapSource/BaseCamp that is showing 2012.10, then what you are seeing is normal behavior. Installing new maps into MapSource/BaseCamp does not delete the old map data, and unless you manually uninstall the old map data through "Add/Remove Programs" (WinXP) or "Programs and Features" (Win Vista/7), the old maps will continue to appear in both programs. Every subsequent update will add another entry to the list.

MapSource/BaseCamp as well as MapInstall have drop-down boxes that allow you to select the map set to be viewed or installed. Simply select the newest map set and you're good to go.

That's a very good and clear

That's a very good and clear explanation.

Power down the Nuvi, then turn it back on

The new maps don't "take" until the unit is powered down and boots up again.

With my Nuvi 750 I find that if it is getting power from the craddle, then it can not be truely powered off and back on.

Take it out of the cradle, power it off. Then power it on again.

RE: Explicit

Thank you for the tips to do describe more accurate. It is the maps screen on the gps (1450lmt).

I used map install and the states I selected loaded onto the GPS just fine. The are listed as 2012.20 on the GPS maps section. The 2012.10 "lower 48" is still there as well.

2012.10 is no longer checked in the selection box and I selected the 2012.20. Should the device be hard reset? Call garmin tech? Thank you all for the help!

The only way I know of that

The only way I know of that 2012.10 wouldn't have been overwritten is if it had been renamed at some time prior to the update to something OTHER than gmapsupp.img. You should be able to go into the GPS and delete the old map image without causing yourself trouble. No hard reset required either. The only thing you need is Windows Explorer and the USB cable.

Thanks

I appreciate your feed back. I will post the results!

.

You might want to think twice about deleting files from your Garmin. It sounds like the new map didn't install properly. If so, deleting other files probably isn't going to help!!

Edit - It appears that the 1450 only has 2GB of internal memory, so I seriously doubt you have two maps on your unit. Unless you have the maps on a memory card.

SD Card

I don't have the GPS with me right now. Is it possible 2012.20 was installed onto the SD card? I did not remember seeing any option when using mapinstall. I remember after this install there was still 700 + megs left on the internal memory.

update in space

If there is not enough space on unit to install map you will get clear warning about it. So it is impossible to miss lack of space. Message says something along the lines of "there is not enough space on unit to install selected maps. Select different set of map or make space on unit". Not exactly this words but with this meaning.

Other than that even if you install map on card when you display info about maps installed on unit it should show both maps: older and newer. So if it is showing only old one it means that update didn't succeeded. What you can do is to run update again or do as Strephon_Alkhalikoi wrote in his first post: use MapSource to do update again.

Mapsource

Thanks- I opened mapsource and under the utilities >Manage Map Products it is there 2012.20. So with some of the other comments it just may have been a botched install.

2012.10 img

I took the advice and removed the .img file. Now the list of loaded maps on the 1450 gps screen is back to 2120.10. No more 2020.20 states I loaded via mapinstaller. The mapsourse on the PC has the correct city navigator. Does anyone know how to overwrite this orginal 2020.10 file? I can not find an image file. I have been unable to contact Garmin as of now.

I had a problem with the installer

Garmin said the had some bugs to work out with the new Lifetime installer, had me use the Option 2 method.

I used the new Lifetime Installer and after it completed the map install, the "User Agreemeent" came up, checked it and submited, a small box came up saying Error, to contact Garmin if it continued. I will try the "Option 2 Method" tonight to see if that fixes it.

Installer

I get the same thing. I am going to try to load it from a computer that has no garmin products from their website. I think there was some funky change in the computer's registry too. Keep you posted

I was having same problem on

I was having same problem on my nuvi 2360LMT. After several failed attempts, the one that worked was to use garmin lifetime updater and installed to BOTH computer and garmin. I also unchecked the map on my Garmin under >tools > settings > >myMaps. Whether unchecking it helped or not I am not sure. I now currently have under myMaps:
CN North America NT
2012.20 ALL
trafficTrends North America 4.25
