You may want to do a hard reset to see if that clears any 'trash' out.

Sounds like base map and North America map. If you delete them, you'll have a GPS with no maps.

I'm wondering if he's seeing just the .img files associated with Winzip, or if they are actually zipped remnants of the map update.

First, the two .img files are being called WINZIP FILEs because for some reason, your computer has associated the file extension img with the program WinZIP. This shouldn't be. Since I've written a few img files, my association is with WINImage. But this shouldn't be a problem for you. As others have said, don't delete the G file.

I also have an 855. I updated to the new 2012.20 map yesterday. My 855 has no FMAPPROM.IMG file (in the current or past map updates) and I can find no reference to that file name on Google. How big is the F file? I hesitate so suggest what to do with it without knowing what it does or where it resides. If no one else offers help and if you're willing to take a small risk, you could try moving the F file from the nuvi to your computer and see what the nuvi does next after it's gone from your 855.

Maybe a better question is "Other than the F....img file being on your nuvi, is the nuvi working well with the new map as far as you know?

Craig, I think the 'F' was a typo. It's right next to the G on the keyboard.

In that case, I agree, it's the new 2012.20 map and is not to be deleted!

Although it's odd--on my 855, the GMAPPROM.IMG file size is 1,577,024 which is not what he states in the OP.

The files have a date of 8/4/11. That was when I downloaded the new map to the gps.

It is odd, but my file is 1.59 GB (1,715,634,176 bytes). I'm not sure why our maps are varying in size, but it is quite bizarre.
