Hello,
I have recently aquired a Garmin Nuvi 265W.
As the internal memory is not sufficient, I have also bought an sdhc card (8GB).
I have now uploaded the desired maps (approx 1.6GB) from Mapsource (installed on my laptop) and want to use the maps on my Garmin device.
When I insert the sdhc card into the device and turn it on, the device starts to load the maps, but then freezes...
I just get the Garmin logo on a black background and at the bottom of the screen is says "loading maps"...
I have left it on for hours, as I thought it was just slow, but no results so far.
Can anyone help me with advice?
Thanks
W
update
Now I have tried to reduce the number/size of the maps on the sdhc card (now approx 800MB). When I insert the card into the Garmin device now, the device starts as normal saying "loading maps"...and then it turns itself off!!! What am I doing wrong...??? Help
sdhc card
On your SDHC card you should find a folder named Garmin
For example
F:\Garmin
In this Garmin folder are files like
GMAP3D.img
gmapbmap.img
gmapsupp.img
gmaptz.img
jcv/D3060020A.JCV
The gmapsupp.img is a very large file, and I suspect is the only file needed.

Thanks HowardZ - so do you suggest that I delete the other files?
Also I have created a route on Mapsource, but I cannot find it on the device once I have transferred it from the laptop...
Check SDHC format
If the SDHC is not formatted as FAT32, reformat it and run mapsource to install your map onto the SD again.
Creating more space on GPS
As was said here before, you can get more space on the GPS by deleting the unused voices and sayings.
It will give you a lot more room.
