There are a lot of POI's that I might need at some time, but don't want to load them on my nuvi 660 or on my laptop. Can I download the POI's to a jump drive or SD card to save for a future downloads to my nuvi via my laptop.
yes
you can do that.

That is what I do, the SD card is in the Garmin, so I am never without it.

Is there anything special
Is there anything special you have to do to load them on the SD card? I have a Garmin c580.
A diffferent Directory
I usually save the GPI files on a different directory, then I move them the right directory when I need.
Basically I never copy the POI files into the main memory of Nuvi... I don't want to lock the nuvi for some probless on the GPI file (it happened to me 6 month ago)

Naw, just copy them to the SD card through windows explorer. I have mine in OLD POIs and then when I need to load a new one, I put that in the "Current POIs". I also rename my gpi files each time so I have about 10 different gpi files in the actual garmin. I don't run my POIs on the actual SD card.
