Stop & Shop

Stop & Shop have a program going on right now that once you pay, you get points added to your card. You get
10 cents off each gallon of gas you have.

The other day I saved 80 cent off each gallon. The price of my gas was $3.25 per gal. Haven't seen that price in a long time.

Don't know when it will end, hope it goes forever!

Giant Eagle

Giant Eagle stores here in NE Ohio has the same program, and you can save more than 10c per gallon.
Last month I saved 40c per gallion.

Kroger

Kroger's program has been going on for over two years now. It works at both Kroger and Shell stations. It's based on how much you spend in the store. You get 10 cents off on one fill for every $100 spent in the store up to a max of $1. A prescription refill counts for 50 points ($50) regardless of the actual cost. Occasionally a prescription transfer counts for 100 points. The Kroger station regular price is always within a cent or two of all the other stations in the area, so the savings are real. I believe that at Shell stations you can only redeem 100 points (10 cents off) per fill.

Definitely could use it in

Definitely could use it in California

The Kroger discount resets at the end of each month, no carry over from the previous month.

not here either

Arizona Fry's Grocery Stores

In Arizona, if you spend $100 in groceries, you get 10 cents off at Fry's. Their gas prices are pretty comparable around town and the prices of groceries are the same. If you spend $200, you get 20 cents off. We just got 40 cents off per gallon when filling up my diesel 40 gal tank. With diesel so high, that was quiet a savings. This has been going on for a couple years now.

Hy-Vee

This regional grocery chain posts a discount everyday from 3 to 6 cents usually, with any grocery purchase in the store that day. They now offer an additional bonus of 10 cents if you purchased $100 at the store. For three months out of the year my Chase Freedom card also offers a rebate of 5% on gas.

However if your like me, you seldom spend $100 per month. On the other hand, the wife does so she gets the discount at Circle K but I don't. Guess I should have her use my card every once and a while to get the dollar amount up smile.

On the other hand, we stopped at a Safeway gas staton while in Show Low and it gave me a $.10 discount even though we seldom shop there. Just had to enter my phone number to receive the discount.

In SC

Down here in SC Bi-Lo offers the same deal as many .05 for every $50 spent. They also throw in the "buy these 3 items and earn an additional .10" offers from time to time. There is no limit on savings, they do have an expiration, think it's after 3 months... never had to wait that long. Only "downside" is it's only on 20 gallons and if you only fill say 10 gallons you lose the other 10. Usually wait until the truck needs a fill-up, since I only drive it on the weekends it may take a couple of months. But I get my whole 20 gallons grin Have to buy Shell gas as well, but I know I have never saved less the $1 a gallon 8 20 gallons that's $20 used it AT LEAST 5 times that $100 for buying groceries... which I would have done anyhow!

In Alabama

Under Alabama’s Motor Fuel Marketing Act, it is unlawful “for any person engaged in commerce in this state to sell or offer to sell motor fuel below cost or to sell or offer to sell it at a price lower than the seller charges other persons on the same day and on the same level of distribution, within the same market area, where the effect is to injure competition.”

You can’t get a credit at the pump in Alabama. However, if you have one, you can use your Walmart credit card (no gift or other cards) and the discount will show up as a statement credit.

A station in Wisconsin was cited for giving a cash discount for the local people with a Band Boosters card. Seems like the stations have to use a rewards card to give a discount.

credit card

I just use a BP credit card, it gives me 5% rebate on gas, 2% on restaurants and motels, and 1% on everything else I buy. It also doubles the warranty on anything I buy up to, I thought I was told a year, but a friend says he was told three years. I'm going to have to call them on that one and find out for sure. I also used a Shell card for several years which kept a running total on how much I saved on gas. I think my last bill said I had saved around $400 since I had their card. I stopped using that one though because they changed the rules and made it too hard to get the rebates.

If I remember right Wisconsin also dictates how much profit they have to make, and Wisconsin also has some of the highest gas taxes.

Get an American Express card by applying at Costco. I have a business account with A.E. and a regular account with Costco. I get 4% discount on all gas from anywhere except superstores, supermarkets, convenience stores and warehouse clubs other than Costco. A non business A.E. account will get 3%. Both will get 3% on restaurants, 2% on travel and 1% on everything else. Once a year you will receive a voucher for all discounts which can be redeemed for cash at any Costco warehouse. Your monthly statement from A.E. shows discounts earned YTD and the voucher comes with your yearly statement.
Right now gas is $3.50 in Dallas so the 4% discount is .14 per gallon. Limit $75 per purchase and max 4% on $6000 annually(and then 1% on all above $6000).

@pwohlrab - reason for

@pwohlrab - reason for nothing in the west or NE US" is that Walmart's promotion is tied-in with "Murphy USA" stations, which are commonly found in Walmart parking lots in the Southeast/Midwest.

Walmart's on-site gas pumps are branded "Mirastar" in the west and "Optima" in the Northeast. Mirastar is owned by Tesoro and Optima is a Sunoco brand.

But the Giant store I mentioned is the closest station to my home. I don't just gas up there though, when I'm at a quarter tank I will start noticing the prices in my normal travels and pick which one was cheapest next time by. Sometimes even with the discount the station near my job is cheaper.
