Garmin 765T redlight file re,oval

I tranferred redlight files (.csv) to my unit for intersections located in my local area, just for testing the procedure. Poi Loader option to remove all poi files does not remove these redlight alerts from my unit.
What am I missing?

with your unit connected

With your unit connected to your computer, you should be able to display the files on the Nuvi. Your file could be in one or two places if it was loaded using POILoader. Look in Garmin\poi for a file ending in .gpi or in gpx for a file ending in gpx. Be careful eliminating some of the gpx files as current.gpx is a copy of your favorites.

If the locations are in your favorites, then the only way to eliminate them is by editing Favorites on the unit.

To better help you, we need to know what you mean by "transfer".

If you "transfered" (by using copy, for example) the redlight .csv file to your GPS, you did not activate any redlight POIs. You can only add custom POIs to you unit by using POILoader in some way.

To explain, when you point POILoader to a folder, POILoader will then read the files in that folder and one level of subfolders and create a .gpi file from all of the .csv or .gpx files that were contained within your folder and one lever of subfolders.

Now, you can use POILoader to create the .gpi file on a SD card or a directory on your PC (assuming you are using POILoader 2.6.1.0). I point this out because you might have used POILoader to take the redlight .csv file, create a .gpi file on your computer, and then "transferred" that .gpi file to your GPS.

POILoader's offer to remove all POI files from your unit is only asking is you want it to remove .gpi files from the \POI folder on your GPS.

Files are reinstalled

After you have POI Loader remove all POIs from the nuvi, as long as the .csv files remain on your PC along with any other POI files, they will all be reinstalled together by POI Loader the next time you load POIs. If you don't want the redlight files reinstalled, delete them or move them on the PC.

Garmin 765T Redlight File

Back again - I thought i deleted all "*.gpi" files manually from SD card. When I was asked by unit about importing "extras" I was replying "yes" , thinking I had cleared all of the test run local street intersections off of the card. But in the PC searching for all ".gpi" files, I found some old ones residing in various places - took them off card. Not POI Loader, but the unit itself was re-inserting them as "extras".

Used POI Loader to manually install the trip ones I wanted to keep. This was good, because I saw the alert names and could have deferred installing them - thanks to all for the "manual" POI Loader advice.

Unplugging the USB PC cable and restarting the Garmin unit - I said "no" to the units prompt to restore "extras" from card.

I think this was the key - I had deleted the local redlight alerts (local ".csv" files), but allowed the unit to reload them, not knowing that the card resident ".gpi" files had the local alerts in them.

Thank you also for the advice to delete the ".gpi" files. I did not know what these were and didn't realize the alerts were in them.

And Thank you ...

And thank you for letting us know what happened.

They came back !

Had all POI and GPX files erased.

Reloaded MAPSOURCE routes into 765T.

Checked "Where To", "Extras" and no POI data was existent (off the cradle).

On cradle I reloaded routes with MAPSOURCE.

All was well - but somehow my local redlight alerts are back( I did not say "OK" to prompt to put on extras found on card). I believe that in the route binary data, these redlight alerts reside and are coming back with them.

I am going to delete all routes now from the unit and see if the alerts come back, anyway.

Off topic but...

GONE FOREVER . . .

Thanks to Gary Hayman - I finally deleted my unwanted alerts on my Garmin 765T. Gary suggesterd not storing the SD card in the unit, but just using it for backup - this way there is no way for the gps unit to see old gpi and gpx files and reinstall them. He adds routes and alerts with the SD card not inserted into the unit. This idea led me to search the card and I found my old unwanted redlight alerts on the card in a file called "garmin.gpi" . Browsing the file with a hex character editor, I saw that the alerts which I had been trying to delete were there. Apparently, the gps will install any such files it sees, even if on the card, This surprises me , in that routes cannot be installed from the card - only with Mapsource or manually.
