Garmin Nuvi battery recall - get a free battery?

Hi,

This might be old news, but I just ran across this:

https://my.garmin.com/rma/recallLanding.faces

Garmin has recalled certain model Nuvis to replace the battery.

One types in the serial number to see if it covered by the recall.

Unfortunately, my Nuvi is not covered - so no free battery for me sad

Howard

Me neither. I wish it was,

Me neither. I wish it was, the battery doen't last too long any more.

Neither my Nuvi 350 or 1350

Neither my Nuvi 350 or 1350 have battery recalls on them & I'm pleased that they don't. Both have performed admirally for a bunch of years & I've used them in cars & on motocycles. Never a problem.

I still use the 350 because it plays mp3's & I've set it up to link thru my car's sound system. The newer ones seem less attractive to me, but I may eventually buy one with lifetime map updates. It's quite amazing to me how slowly the map changes have occured in my area.

I've had two replaced

Recall or not, Garmin will replace your battery if it's still under guarantee. I've had two replaced.

Yes, news has been out there. Many have taken advantage of the recall to get a fresh battery. A few have complained about Garmin quality, but anyone who has a rechargeable battery device knows that the battery is the weak link, flaky or not. Most folks were glad to get a new battery to extend the life of their device, me included. Good reminder if you haven't taken care of it yet.

Has anyone here sent theirs in? What was the turn around time? My Nuvi 200w is recalled, but I haven't gotten around to sending it in yet.

Read the link you quoted!

It's in there. rolleyes

Naturally my Nuvi 855 didn't

Naturally my Nuvi 855 didn't qualify. I did order a new battery from garmin for that GPS because after sitting for a few days it gets drained. crying My old Nuvi 370 battery is still going strong even after sitting for weeks. Bigger battery I guess.

The 855 does not turn off when you power it down, it just sleeps and continues to use some power. So all 855s will lose battery power if unused over a few days. The only option is to remove the battery when you don't plan to use it in the next few days. Garmin's reasoning for using "sleep" is that the device will wake up quicker than other GPS units that need to reboot when turned on. However, I think the newer Garmins have abandoned the sleep mode so things must not have worked out well with the choice made.

One other thing: some of us 855 owners (including me) find that on occasion, the battery can go from fully charged to dead overnight. One owner reports that this occurs because his 855 randomly turns itself on! I've not seen the phantom turn on with my unit but that might be what occasionally drains my fully charged battery in a period of one day or less.

For me, the annoying part of removing the battery is that when started up the next time, my voice reverts to the default Jill and I need to change it back to the TTS voice I prefer.

Battery

I have noticed that my new Garmin does not havce the sdame battery time as my older unit. Anyone else notice this?

Craig W, Thanks for your

Craig W,

Thanks for your insight on the 855!

I never had the problem with the battery drain until recently and then only sporadicly. Hopefully the new battery will change all that.

I'm happy my 350 doesn't have a recall, I'm satisfied with it.

I found out it...

costs more to pack, ship and insure than it does to buy the battery and install it yourself...

found this out very quickly! Seems my 350,360 and 370, last much longer. Of course those don't have all the additional features the newer ones have!
