I finally got my GPS back and working, and I was trying to make a list of places to eat/visit in San Diego. But I'm reading these instructions, and it looks like another language.. greek? spanish? in otherwords, I read the instructions but I can't follow them... =( oh, makes my head dizzy... sooo... for all of you POI-creator experts, I was wondering if anyone can help me create a file. I was thinking of the guidebook idea, but again, I can't figure out how to do that. I'll provide names, addresses, or other info (hours? comments? does that fit on the sceen?) if someone can get the coordinates and make the file. I can verify them and you can take all the credit in submitting it (esp since I won't have a clue on how to edit it...) Is anyone interested? Let me know... I'm on vacation later this month for 2 weeks with no internet so don't be offended if I don't reply immediately. =D Thanks!
lol
First turn the manual upside down, English is on the other side.
How many places are you thinking of including?
Did you mean "TourGuide" (vs guidebook)?
If you really want to learn, you have to jump in and try to create some poi files.
The hardest part is finding the correct latitude and longitude. Everyone has their own favorite way of finding that info. You'll just have to try them and see what works best for you.
I'm moving this weekend, then vacation at the end of the month, so after this wed or thurs...I'm not sure when I might be back on line.
There has to be someone here that is willing to walk you through the procedures.
There is probably someone very close to SD that could tutor you as well.
If all else fails...jump in...the life rings are at the ready!
........Garmin StreetPilot c550 / Nüvi 765...........
There are plenty of ways to get coordinates
...off a computer (google earth, geocoder, etc.) The lazy man's way is to keep a little notebook with you in your car, and as you drive around San Diego record the interesting spots. Guaranteed accuracy.

Nuvi 350, GPS Map 76CX
Try this GC...
...with one address that you’re familiar with - this is how I do it. Oh, and let us know what happens!
You’ll need to download 2 programs to your PC, POIEdit 2007 and POI Verifier.
Go to this site ttp://stevemorse.org/jcal/latlon.php to find the Lat and Long numbers for the address.
Enter the info and press:
DETERMINE LATITUDE / LONGITUDE then wait for the results.
Use POI Edit to create your file by entering the info and the coordinates in the appropriate spaces. Save the file as a Garmin Comma Seperated .csv .
Next, use POI Verifier and check the 2 boxes at the top. Hit START VERIFICATION and when prompted, load your newly created .csv file. You should end up with 1 text file + 3 .csv files - usually with the extensions m, r, and v (that’s what I get). The file with the v (or the highest letter of the 3) is the one that you should be able to upload using your Garmin loader. Rename the file without the suffix.
If I've missed anything feel free to jump in people.
GC email me if you have any problems .
