Look right here. Under the tab for red light cameras are two links taking you to the icon and sound libraries.

Yet to Upload

I created one that is seven seconds of the Star Trek "Red Alert" sound. I have been meaning to upload it but have not had a chance to do it. Plus, I am not sure there would be much interest. There are plenty of others on the site.

Well, I found the default

Well,

I found the default sound short and not very loud.

I made some mp3 files using audacity.
Just my voice saying "Red light camera ahead"

I also found these played not very loud on the Garmin.

I have the volume set to the highest.

Perhaps I need to record the mp3 files again?

Howard.

there are 2 volume controls

There are 2 volume controls on some units. One is for the voices, the other for media such as MP3 files. It's under Mixer for those units supporting MP3.

Audacity

I used Audacity's amplify function.

(under Effects - > Amplify )

This made my voice in the mp3 files much louder.

I'll see how it sounds next time I drive near a red light or speed camera.

Howard

OK, The Audacity Amplify

OK,

The Audacity Amplify function boosted the volume of the mp3 files.

In the garmin nuvi, I keep the master volume at 90% and the other volume levels at 100%. I drive a diesel car - and the engine makes more noise than a typical car's engine.

I like the suggestion of Star Trek red alert sound for the speed cameras. I found a red alert sound here:

http://www.mediacollege.com/downloads/sound-effects/star-tre...

I used audacity to paste together three red-alerts followed by my voice announcing the speed camera.

For red light cameras, I do not plan to add a red-alert sound.

I am afraid I will become complacent when hearing the RLC alerts, and I am much more concerned about the speed cameras. Thus the speed cameras mp3 file will begin with the red-alert sound.

I will see how the red-alert mp3 file sounds in the coming days.

Audacity Amplify function

can you explain what this is and how to get/use it?
thanks.

Audacity

get Audacity at
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows
depending on your version of windows.

When you run Audacity and "open" an audio file, there will be a menu option "Effect" and the first sub-menu item is "Amplify."

Wow

Just downloaded the 1.3 beta for Win7. Wow again! Might have to higher me a sound technician to use it. Lots of bells and whistles. A little bit of overkill just to amplify a sound file a little. I think I can get through the amplify function on a couple files but I'm almost afraid to click on anything else.

Thanks for the link,

Thanks for the link,

If you just want to play with the volume...
http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/

This is great for MP3 files. Use Audacity to convert between formats if needed.

Thanks for both links. Audacity looks great (and I want to try it sometime) but I think I will go for the simpler mp3gain program for now.
