(SOLVED) unable to add Lifetime Maps to nuvi (3790t)

I suspect this may already be known here (although my searches didn't find anything), so my apologies if I'm stating the obvious to some (or all).

I purchased a 3790t about a year ago (forced upgrade from a 765t... read on). I rarely leave my gps in the car (even when at home). It only takes one time, though, and the 765t was stolen last year (at home... along with an 80GB iPod, unfortunately) as part of a neighborhood "crime spree" that involved about 4 other cars in one night. Lesson learned... and the replacements are NEVER left in the car.

Anyway, I purchased Lifetime Maps today (Amazon). The code and activation were fine, and it's now sitting at the Garmin site waiting for me to add it to the 3790 (which is currently at map version 2011.20). The problem is, when I attempt to add it, I get a response that my maps are already up-to-date.

I couldn't find anything at Garmin, Google, or POI factory that spoke to the issue, so I called Garmin support (for the 1st time). After several minutes of troubleshooting (during which the rep asked for my myGarmin password to verify what I was describing), he put me on hold to "go check" on it.

The problem (according to Garmin, at least) is that the newest map version (2012.10, I assume) is about to be released. I was told that was going to happen within a week (and I've read that here, as well). Apparently, they remove the last version from the update capability while they're in the process of updating to the new map version. Therefore, I currently DO have the latest version (since there isn't another one currently available).

I did mention that it might be a good idea to add a statement to the update process to let people know what the scoop is, but I doubt that suggestion will go anywhere.

I guess I'll know in a week or so if that's really the issue here. As a side note, the myGarmin site lists my SINGLE lifetime maps purchase twice... as though I had purchased twice. I was told not to worry about that, as well.

Anyway, if anyone else is in the process of trying to update their map version and is having issues... this "changeover" period may be the culprit.

Interesting

Thanks for good news about update. Hopefully it will fix the bugs from the last version.

You were using the IE

You were using the IE browser weren't you. FF and Chrome make that site wonkie. I recently called too and IE did the trick.

They told me late July for the map update though.

I get the same "maps are

I get the same "maps are already up-to-date" message with FireFox (ver 3.6.17) and IE (ver 8). I don't have Chrome installed, at the moment.

2011.40 is my current map,

2011.40 is my current map, are you sure you have anything else? For all I know different devices have different map versions. But I can assure you the next update isn't anytime soon, I don't know why the rep said otherwise.

"Assurances" about the time

"Assurances" about the time line for the next update aside, today's release of the 2012.1 map DID allow me to finally apply my lifetime maps purchase successfully and download/install the latest map.

Whether or not the Garmin rep was right about the map update "change over" period being responsible for my previously unsuccessful update attempts, or there was an issue with the previous versions of the map for 37xx units, I don't know.
