Something new with Walmant/Sams POI?? (2 Beeps) SOLVED!

I've only used the Garmin with the New Maps twice since the Map upgrade, and first time I didn't go past a Walmart/Sams... So I'm not certain why this is happening....

But I think something is new & different with the Latest Wallmart/Sams POI..
Every time I go near a Wallmart, I'm hearing Two Beeps, THEN we hear the Wallmart Audio saying I'm near it....

Not hearing it on other POI's... Just the Walmart one...

So I'm thinking it's something new in the the POI....

Has anyone else noticed this?

It's nice but I would not want it to beep...

If you don't have alert set

If you don't have alert set up for it.Any chance does your file have a number in the name?I am using the gpx file and went past Walmart today with no beep.

Open the POI and see what it says

Go to your Extras and open Walmart POIs, select the one you drove by today and see if it has an alert distance showing on the "GO" screen.

If you got an alert it should show there unless it is a TourGuide alert. Then you can check a couple of other to determine if it is all of them or soething just on that particular entry.

@JanJ

You can also run poiloader again using manual mode.Go through each file and it will show if alert is with that file.Use skip so you don't have to re-load you custom poi files if you don't find any.

I always load POI's in

I always load POI's in manual mode... This one set for 2000 feet.
Prior versions of this also were set for manual and 2000 feet... But didn't Double Beep before announcing the MP3 audio...

It's following the Latest version.... Never hear it before....

Double alert

It sounds like if it is 2 higher pitched beeps that it is a double alert, a speed alert before a distance alert mp3. I only read about double alerts in Gary Hayman's Tips and Tricks website at http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/index.html but never experimented with idea. Is it all Walmarts or just 1 location doing this? Answering that question will determine where you start looking for a number in the filename or POI entry name.

Another possibility...

Since the new version of PoiLoader allows you to change the name of the file to put on your GPS, it may be possible that you have two POI files with the same contents on your GPS but with different names.

Also possible you may have one in the GPS POI folder and a duplicate on a SD card if you are using one.

Not using new POI Loader...

Not using new POI Loader... V2.5.4
It did it on two Wallmarts...
One on Oakton Street in DesPlaines Illinois
One on Rt 83 By St.Charles Road... I think this is Elmhurst??

Checked the directory it's in... Only one walmart database file, one MP3, one BMP... All named identically....

The following POI's went off during this same drive day: Redlight, Starbucks, Walgreens, Diner's Drive-ins & Dives, and a Popeye's... These all went off without beeps.... However two Walmarts DID go off, and each gave two beeps just prior to each of the Audio prompts..

Furthermore.... Our trip was there and back... with GPS off while we were at destination....
We took same route each way.... and on way back we were on the lookout (listen) for the Walmarts and POI activity ..... The beeps happened on the same two Walmarts on the way there.. AND on the way back.....

Take the WalMart file out of the gps.Run a simulation mode for the same area and see if you get the beep.My guess is that you have another poi file in the same location with a number in it,@xx in a single poi or a key word with out a mp3 associated with it.Causing the beep or bong alert.I was on a trip and kept getting alert every time we traveled back to the hotel for the night.Turns out the beep was for a Super 8 hotel I was passing.I had forgot to change the 8 to eight when I done the update.

Multiple files on GPS vs multiple files on computer

The posters suggesting you may have multiple POI files are talking about multiple gpi files on the GPS, not files on the computer.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

I found myself in another

I found myself in another state last week... and guess what... It's gotta be the Walmart POI file....
That seems to be the only POI doing it...

ANYTIME I go within range of a Wallmart, I get two warning beeps, and then the Audible Wallmart response...

Since my first post there has been 2 different Walmart/Sams POI updates.... I'm thinking it has something to do with something in the POI....

Especially so since it's happening in multiple states!
P.S. Using Garmin CSU & MP3 audio, not GPX files...

It takes two

It takes two to Tango .. not to throw anyone off-track here, but could it be the result of a change on the unit that might have come from a map/unit os update?

.. Just putting the thought out there. It might also help if we knew exactly which poi file (which date/version), and which software version your gps is running.

I have a sample gpi file that acts differently on my 765T than on my 295W, which is also why I had this thought.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

I did just Find Something! I

I did just Find Something!

I checked the folders again, and I DID FIND a 'loose' Starbucks Comma Delimited file in the "Stores" directory... Where the Walmart file resides...

Which of course is a bit confusing, as it was Walmart that acted up, not Starbucks.....

Verified and Cleaned up the POI's Directories, and deleted, then re-downloaded all POI's to 660 again... I'll check to see how it works out..

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

SOLUTION FOUND!!!

It ended up being the mis-placed Starbucks Comma Delimited file in the "Stores" directory!

I went to Same WalMart That beeped a couple days ago, on two different approaches to this store...

And now I do not get 2 Beeps followed by the Announcement..... Just the Announcement.... Like normal....
In this "Stores" directory there is the following POI's each with 1 Comma Delimited file, 1 BMP Icon, 1 MP3 Announcement

Aldi
Lowes
Publix
Target
Walgreens
Walmart

(And when 2 Beeps occurred): one errant Starbucks Comma Delimited file

Now each time this 2 Beep occurred preceding the proper MP3 Walmart Announcement, I had previously gone past a Walgreens, and THAT worked correctly!!

So there is a potential for problems to arise with a second POI database file stored in a 2nd location... and the results are hard to troubleshoot!!!

More information

When I first mentioned the above problem, It was happening in Illinois.... Multiple locations...

The last couple references of this occurred in Las Vegas (We were on vacation there...

We're back in Illinois, and I should be going past at least one of the locations that acted up this weekend.... But I believe it's solved....

Interesting that an extra file like that would cause that problem with another POI.... The Starbuck's POI worked fine in Vegas....

Wierd..

Confirmed Fixed

Today (I'm back in Illinois) we went past the two Walmart's that started this thread.

They now prompt on the MP3 audio files, no 2 beeps, then MP3 announcement...

FIXED!
