The eagle in Iowa has hatched the first one. It is quite neat to see something like this. I have had it running on the comp. All day yesterday and thin morning.

Defending against an Owl Attack

This is footage from 2AM last night, of the Decorah eagles, both Mom and Dad defending their young against a perceived threat from an owl and possibly another predator. Pretty interesting !

Cool

Cool webcam. What happened to the owl attack clip?

Wathcing the Eagles

Has anyone watched the eagles latley. H was watching today and they are getting big. Spreading their wing and feeding themselfs now. I looked at the onew born in Norfork the same time and they ahve moved them into a nest cage as the female eagle got hit by an airplane on the 27th of April . Quite sad.

New season for egg(s)

I have been watching the eagle's nest off and on all winter. Today I noticed there is 1 egg in the nest. This seems earlier than last year ... probably because of the mild winter. It will be interesting to see if this pair of eagles raises 1, 2 or more eaglets this year. Here is the current link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel-popup/decorah-eagles

I watched them last year till they quit the link.

link

The link I posted above was active all fall and winter, although the eagles didn't visit the nest very often after the young left last summer. This winter after dark you would often see a couple of live mice scurrying around in the nest. They apparently made their home in or near the eagle nest ... seems like poor choice of real estate for a rodent! I don't know if the mice are still there or became a meal.surprised

Good parenting

Yeah, it is interesting that the male and female share the incubation duties.

male/female

Is there an easy way to distinguish the male from the female? To me, they appear to be about the same size and coloration.

Video Tutorial

On how to tell the difference between Mom & Dad in this pair anyway...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lARYcL5A50

Mom is bigger, has grey in the head feathers compared to Dad - beak colors are different - Dad more orange.

Neat

Neat

2 and 1

Two babies now.

Cool

Very cool stuff. It's hard to stop watching it.

Very Interesting

I have an eagle nest just across the river I can watch from my living room. Mom and Pop had two eggs hatch, but they're down to one babe now. Don't know what happened to the other one. Possibly the other baby killed it (they did fight a lot) or it fell out of the nest. Hope this one survives.

In any case, bald eagles are beautiful birds!

Osprey Cam

Florida has a large Osprey population. The Osprey is a cousin to the Eagle.

The City of Dunedin, FL has a webcam set up on a local Osprey nest. I just looked and one egg has hatched.

Two have hatched

Two eaglets--very cute!--have hatched since Friday and there's a black line on egg #3 suggesting it will hatch soon--if you don't see the eaglets at this point on the livecam, they're under mom or dad in the nest:
http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles

"D21" and "D22" are the 21st and 22nd eaglets born to this mating pair over the years at this location--the project doesn't give them human-type names to avoid anthromorphization:
