Dead 760?

Hey all,

I have a 760 that suddenly will not power up. sad It was on, I turned off the ignition, and received the countdown message before turning off. I was just going into a store, so I touched the button to keep it turned on.

When I came back out, the screen was off and would not turn back on. The light on the power supply is on, but nothing else happens. I've switched it on & off multiple times, held the switch in the power on position, and anything else I can think of. No response at all.

For several months, I have noticed that the battery life was diminished. It wouldn't take very long without power for the low battery warning to pop up.

If the battery completely failed to hold a charge, would this cause the unit to not power on at all?

Thanks for any help!

have you checked out the

have you checked out the FAQs on the garmin site for your model. they might have an easy fix for you there.

.

A long time ago I remember reading that if your battery went below a certain point you wouldn't be able to turn on the unit using the car charger. But it would work using usb. So maybe try using usb power and see if it works.

Also, you can change the battery yourself for under $20. There are a number of threads on this site with links to battery sites as well as tutorial videos for changing the battery.

Battery swap

I hadn't thought about a battery swap. As it happened, I went home last night and tried powering it up again. It had been sitting untouched on a charger for 2 days.

And, of course, it started right up. Seems you're correct regarding it not being able to start if the battery is completely depleted.

Thanks for the advise.

760 Nuvi Dead

Same happened to mine a few yrs ago. The battery was down too far. I tried usb and well as the car charger to no avail. Finally after it rested for several hours, it finally came back. I immediated charged it fully without any issues since! New batteries should you need one can be found cheaply on the net!

might be sop

I know my 660 shut off several times for no reason, when it was brand new. A couple weeks ago, the traffic receiver/feature started working for no reason. Seems like they've got bugs. They've got bugs, I've got droid.
