Strange 660 Behavior

The red light camera alerts, visual & audible, on my 660 work as expected. I should say worked as expected. The alerts work fine except if I'm using the media player. It used to be that the music stopped, the audible was played and then the music resumed. Now, the music stops, no audible alert and then the music resumes but on the next track.

Audo

Check your audio/voice settings. My 765T occasionally loses its' voice and I have to reset it. I have no idea why it does this, but it happens once in a great while.

Great idea, my 755T does the same. But don't forget to update to the latest versions and not just a reload of your backup files.

Checked settings, no change. I also checked with the Web Updater. With the media player in use, it's only the red light audio alert that is lost, the navigation audio works fine. Turn off media player and everything works perfectly.

mp3 or wav?

Are you using mp3 or wav audio red light alerts? If no one can fix your issue more easily, it might be worth switching to the other audio format and see if the alerts reappear while the media player is active. Remember that when using a PC, wav files need sox.exe in the same directory as POI Loader.

MP3s

Using mp3s. As far as I tell nothing has changed except for the odd behavior.

Try WAV Files

Several firmware versions back in the 660, a problem was introduced where if an mp3 song was playing when a POI audio alert tried to play, the mp3 player would skip ahead to the next song.

See this old topic from 2008: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13093

A workaround was found here in the Factory forum that if wav audio alert files were used, mp3's would no longer skip.

Garmin then issued a firmware "fix" for this problem, but it still didn't work properly as it did in previous versions. (I can't remember the exact issue)

As a result, I never went back to using mp3 files for POI alerts. To this day, I continue to use wav files for POI audio alerts and my mp3 player works flawlessly.

Hope this helps.

OK

I'm going to change to wav files.
Question, why do I need SOX? I'll use a conversion tool I already have.

SOX Is Needed

Even when you convert an mp3 formatted audio file using any converter program to wav format, POILoader still needs the SOX program file to interpret the wav format. POILoader alone doesn't understand wav formatted files.

Right!

Great memory, Gary.
