OK, I downloaded an image from the Italian site - now how do I get it loaded into my nuvi 350? I don't see any files on it that I recognize as being the one for the factory screen.

I am not sure if you can do that with the 350. If the 350 can be seen through windows explorer, then you can.

At the root the Garmin folder, there is a picture file, that is your splash screen. Just put the new one on the root as well and the (at least with the c530) you can go into the GPSr itself and choose which splash screen you want.

What I did was to create a folder, either on the nuvi itself or on the SD card, name it "splash_screens" for example, and download the images to that folder. Make sure to change the images to .jpg files from .bmp files. You can convert them in the Paint program. Once the files are convereted to .jpg files, the nuvi should recognize them.

Click on the "wrench" icon, then the "display" button, there you'll find the "splash screen" button to change the screen.

It's easy,
You have to save the file on the nuvi,(you can save the file on JPEG drectory)

Then switch on the nuvi.
(I've not the nuvi in front of me so I try using my memory)
Select SETTING - SCREEN - WELCOME SCREEN - CHANGE
you will se the list of images stored on nuvi memory.
Select the image you have just copied
After few seconds you will see a screen askin if you want to use the image as welcome screen
push YES!

I hope the names of buttons are correct..

1 - Turn on the Nuvi
2 - From home screen click settings
3 - Click display
4 - Click "Change" beside splash screen
5 - Choose any JPEG already listed on your Nuvi or SD card

For best results resize your image to be either 320x240 or any size ratio of 1.33 (such as 1024x768, i.e. divide the length of the image by the height). If you don't use a 1.33 aspect ratio your splash screen will be cut off at either the bottom or sides.

Yippee - it works. Now I can create my own custom screens in Photoshop.

If you create some cool ones that aren't personal (such as your family) share them!!!!! Just don't put Nuvi or Streetpilot on the splash screen so that everyone can use them and not look stupid as though we didn't know our model of GPSr...lol.

I have the security option enabled and used Microsoft Paint to create a jpg file that says "Reward if Found" and then it has my email and phone contact info. If it gets stolen and if they can't disable the security lock, the nuvi660 will announce to the world who owns it. So much for the aesthetics.

I used a picture of my grandson. It is great!

I have this pic on my SD card. I just made it my start-up screen. As a bonus, it is displayed when my 1490t is connected to my PC.

We've gotten many compliments because of it....

Can't say I'm great with aspect ratio. I know a lil about it. But you say 1.33] so what resolution would one make a picture for the 295w that has a 3.5" wide screen? to make it fill up the entire screen if possible.

also for anyone else out there that wants to answer the website listed on this post seems to be outdated and is no longer accessible. Anyone know of a new website that has the same kind of pics? Thanks all. Everyone has been a big help so far on this site.

I’m envious, when I visited the Canyon in 2008 wasn’t aware you had to make reservation as much as a year in advance to do the mule ride, my guess it was like a ride at Disney where you just stand in line for while and you get on. I then heard about the horses on the other rim but it was too late we were leaving that day.

Each screen size has its own specifications for the best resolution.

The ideal resolution for pictures if you intend to view them on your GPS device would be the native resolution of the screen. For 3.5" screens, 320x240 is the best resolution. For 4.3" screens, 480x272 is the best resolution. For the 5.2" screen, 800x480 is the best resolution.

*Please Note: To find the screen size and best resolution for your specific device you can refer to the specs tab of your device located on the Garmin website.
