Downloading to a Folder

Not being very computer literate, among other shortcomings, I have been struggling for some time trying to save a POI to a folder.

First, I set up the folder as directed.

Second when I go to the POI that I want to download, I click on that.

That brings up a screen with GARMIN or TOMTOM(?)at the top of the screen.

When I click on GARMIN, it goes directly to the save function. There is no space to allow me to direct it to the folder I created. The file is saved. In this case, the Rest Areas are saved to an Excel file.

However, I don't know what to do from there to get it into the folder I created.

Could someone give me some simple directions to get the file to my folder?

Browser?

Are you trying this on a PC or a Mac? What browser are you using?

When I (with a Windows PC and Internet Explorer browser) click the "Garmin" link on a POI page, I'm given the choice of Open/Save/Cancel. I choose Save, which then brings up a Windows "Save As" window where I can change the directory to the POI directory I've previously created (as have you). I then save the POI file (csv or gpx) to the desired directory. I gather that this is not what's happening for you.

Tell us a bit more and we'll offer some more advice. Good luck!

PS--you want to save the file as a csv and not an Excel file. If you're using a Windows PC, make sure that your saved files aren't ending up with a double extension. See:

Check especially Steps 4 and 5 in the link above, if you're a Windows PC user since you really want to alter the default settings a Windows PC chooses for you.

I am using a laptop PC and

I am using a laptop PC and Mozilla Firefox. I will again look at the reference you gave.

But maybe my problem is Firefox and I should be using Internet Explorer. I can try that next, after I read your reference. Thanks.

Firefox is better the IE.

All you need to do in Firefox is goto: Tools>Options. Once there click on the General tab and right in the middle you will see "Save files to" selection with a "Browse" button to the right of it.

Just click the browse button and navigate to the folder you wish to download to then click the OK button on the bottom.

Remember thought, this will save everything you download to that folder. What I do is make a folder called "Downloads" on my C drive and save all my downloads there.

Once there, I simply copy/move them to where needed.

Hope this helps.

It worked with Internet Explorer.

I will also try the Firefox Route.

Thank you very much. I knew someone could direct me properly.
