poi's alerts

 

How does a person know if a poi file has an alert? And what is the difference between distance and speed alert? Thanks for your help.

Alerts are actually set on a per 'Waypoint'-basis. With POI Loader in manual mode, it sets the alert on every waypoint in the file - thus giving the impression that it is per-file. If you select an individual Waypoint/POI, it shows you the parameters that are in effect (if any).

A distance alert is (as it says), triggered at a specific distance, no matter what speed you are going. In general the alert only sounds once.
For the speed alerts, you have to be travelling at or above the specified speed and it continues to sound, while this is the case. I think you still get an initial indication though, regardless of speed. You can override this default distance, using gpx.
