For want of a better word Garmin changed the format of the maps sometime after the 2610 came out.

I'm in the same boat as you. I can update my 2720 but not my 2610.

If I remember correctly, I read about something that would convert the maps so they would work with the 2610 but I don't remember where or when I read about it. If anyone here knows if there is a way to convert the maps I'm sure they'll let us know.

I keep my 2720 as a backup, good to know I could still update the maps. sorry about the 2610 though - it is still a very good device.
