Garmin Battery Care

Does anyone have a suggestions for making the battery life of a Garmin GPS last longer?

We just bought a new Garmin GPS and I want to ensure that the battery is getting properly charged and not over charged. In the past we had a Garmin and within a few months the GPS battery life on a full charge was less than 20 minutes.

What model do you have? Some of the units with removable batteries (e.g. 800 series) will not turn off completely and only go into standby. These units will deplete their batteries in a few days of standby, and storing batteries uncharged reduces their life. Solution: Remove the battery when not using it for a few days.

Otherwise, just keep the battery charged, and use the power cord whenever possible.

The battery should last a lot longer than a few months, so it may have been defective and covered under warranty.

Search Site

Do a search of POI Factory post as there is lots of advice on batteries and how to replace them if needed. You'll also find info on the basic card and feeding for your battery in the site's postings.

Thank you very much for your response. My GPS is a Garmin 1450LMT. The traffic feature only works when the GPS adapter is plugged into the outlet, so I was concerned about a constant electrical trickle running through the battery or the battery getting too much charge since in the past I have not had much success with Garmin batteries.
