Anyone else do walmarts site to store option?

OK, so the day I've been waiting for very impatiently has finally arrived! My garmin nuvi 295w is now here. But already I have some questions. Not so much about the unit but rather walmarts shipping preferences.

When I received the unit it was all piled into a brown box inside of another bigger brown box. And only had a clear peel away screen protector instead of what I was used to of being a peel away sticker with the graphic of a map. Also not sure on one other thing is this unit supposed to come with a stylus? because mine didn't. Not a big deal it's just the way it kind of looks right now is that I'm getting a refurbished unit instead of a new one like I paid for when I could have saved some money and went the ebay route for a refurb. Other than that everything seems to work pretty well on it, I do notice that when I press an area of the screen it kind of blurs off to the side of my finger and I honestly don't think I'm pressing too hard. Oh and one last question lol i promise. When I turn the unit off and back on it asks me every time to select language/country/ and 3 other screens that I have to agree too. My old nuvi would just turn on and say do you accept the terms? and I would click agree and that was it.

Thanks everyone.

Satellite lock

You probably need to let the unit find the satellites before it will stop asking you for your language and etc.

I'm sure Walmart will take the unit back if you feel it is a refurb.

But it had found satellites

But it had found satellites and still did it? And honestly if I can figure out how to avoid the repeated input of them things I don't think I would be worried about returning it. But I'll give it a few more times of driving around to see if it stops being picky. Something else I noticed is it was setup for some place in kansas which i'm figuring is where the unit may have been assembled? not sure on that since it seems most products come from china or something similar lol.

I have purchased from

I have purchased from Walmart site to store several times and I have always received new merchandise packaged in the original box with all of the packing and instructions, cables, etc. The original printed box was inside a cardboard shipping box. You should have gotten exactly what you expected to get buying it in a store.

If I were you I would contact Walmart and tell them what you got because this does not seem right to me. I would not accept it. Walmart return policy is good but on electronics you need to not wait too long (max. 30 days return for electronics). You can take it to any store for a refund - they will not do an exchange but they will give you all of your money back - then you can try again with Site to Store or go elsewhere.

And your Garmin should act as expected - it should not be picky. When you turn it on all you should have to answer is that you agree to not touch the screen while driving. Then it should start right up with locked satellites. Don't settle - be satisfied!

Thanks Robert, I called

Thanks Robert, I called 1-800-walmart and connected to walmart.com through there and the answer they gave me was that it was not a refurb unit and that this is the way that some of their distribution centers ship products out. Would have been nice to know that before hand as I like everything that is supposed to come with a product and don't really understand why they would take it out of a nice neatly packed smaller box to put it into a slightly bigger brown box and then putting that brown box into another brown box. Only reason I can figure is so if someone at the shipping place pries the box open a little and see's a GPS unit inside of it by looking at the garmin box then they would know to steal it. As with the smaller brown box inside the bigger one they cannot tell what it is with out fully taking apart the big box and then prying the smaller one open. So the last thing to do is play with the unit some more and see if them other annoyances stop after updating the firmware and driving around a little.

Robert

I agree with Robert. I bought my Nuvi 855 from Walmart online and had received a brand new unit in a brand new box. I would throw a fit and send that unit back for a "new one in a box". As for the warehouse people, I hope they have tighter controls than rely on a brown box to control theft.....

Not sure I will throw a fit

Not sure I will throw a fit lol. As long as I can get them other things to work right. Mainly because of the turn around time of not knowing just how long it will take to get a new one if even possible. When I bought it on the 19th it was at $79 online and now it's at $98 and currently out of stock for the last few days. If I can't have this unit I'm not sure that I would want to go with another model. As I was wanting it for the camera/wi-fi/ etc as well which no other unit has. The closest thing I found is a unit by mio that has everything this one does except for the camera and geo tagging. I'm just not too sure about it since it of course isn't a garmin with a good rep for map updates/customer service etc.

Walmart site to store

Amazon shows a few pictures of the brown box Frustration-Free Packaging. Check it out and see if that is how your unit arrived.

This is Garmin's headquarters in the US. All of their units comes with that already plugged in to the GPS.

I recently purchased a 295 and for the first few times I had to keep inputting my information. Once I actually used the unit (driving around). It stopped asking for the information.

Not from what I seen really. It was more like this just picture the garmin pieces in plastic and bubble wrap inside of the box

http://keetsa.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/amazon-pac...

and then put that box inside of a bigger brown box.

mine too

mine is not doing the constant 3 screens anymore just the normal one now. so all is good there. I wish I could figure out how to view the map version on this thing because I would like to know just how old it is. Reason I'm wondering is because I went into poi and clicked on gas stations near me and it shows a meeks gas station. Only problem is, is that it hasn't been a gas station in over 15 years =/ it's just a service garage now. and it also doesn't show the other gas station on the main hwy that has been there for at least 10 years. I had this problem once before with my old garmin I was up in iowa on my way back from south dakota and the car got extremely low on gas and I had to find a gas station but everytime it took me to one it was either not open 24 hours, or it was shut down/ or it was torn down/ and then even non existent lol. Finally about the 12th gas station it located was still in service. But aside from that and the minor bluring on the right side of the screen when pressing it. all else seems to be good with the unit.

walmart site to store option

Wow. I have used this option many times with no trouble at all. It is a great service.

Garmin web site

Did you go to the Garmin website and register your Nuvi? Once you have done that you can update the software on the unit and you will be offered a free update of the maps too.
