Nuvi 1300 maps or software?

1st post and I Hope i'm doing this right. Just decided to purchase a 1300LMT instead of buying lifetime maps for my 750. It's fully updated and i've noticed that the maps are not as detailed. If i'm not navigating a route, but just have the map displayed as I drive, the maps on the 1300 do not have many street names for the streets in the area; especially for a suburban development. The 750 shows every street with name in my suburban development. The 1300 shows every street, but only names for 2 or 3 out of several dozen. If i'm driving, the names come and go, but i cannot look at the map from home and see all the street names. I have map detail set to MOST on both units. Also, while driving with a map displayed, the 750 shows you (in the green bar at top) the next cross street you're approaching and it constantly changes as you pass the next street, the 1300 only shows the street your on. Checked several units back in the store and they all do the same thing, so it's not my particular unit. Does anyone know if this is a function of the software in the 1300 or the current maps? My fear is that i decide to update the maps on my 750 (from 2009), and all the detail i currently have goes away with 2011.31.

Nuvi 1300 maps or software?

If you update your 750, you will have the same detail has your 1300lmt, since 2010 they changed the detail set up

this is useful to me also,

this is useful to me also, thanks

Nuvi 1300 maps or software

Thank you. Any idea why they did away with the detail? The data is obviously there since if you are navigating, the street names are shown and spoken. Also, does this go for the higher end units as well? Thank you for your response.

750 retains map detail with update

For those that might be interested. I just purchased the lifetime updates for my 750, and ALL of the detail is still there with the newe maps. All of the street names are displayed and the green navigation bar still shows upcoming street when not navigating, unlike the 1300. Effectively, all of the maps are now current, but with all of the functionality of the 750. This seems much much better than the 1300 to me.

My 1350

I really haven't noticed any problems but have not been that particular. I will look closer today and see what's up.

My 1300

When I'm driving along on the open road, the map zooms way out to a range of about 2 miles or more, and the detail goes away. When I get near a turn or a speed zone in a populated area, the map zooms in, and shows all the detail.

Don't know why? Maybe it's one of my settings, but it doesn't bother me, because the detail seems to be there when I need it.

1350

Sounds pretty much the same. If I am driving the highway at 65-70 the detail is so-so, but when I slow for an off ramp it increases in map detail. I guess it realizes, or at least hopes I won't be taking the off ramps all that fast. Well, maybe not all the time.

its the new maps software

again, for those who might be interested, i can now confirm that the 1450 behaves the same way that the 1300 does. I believe it is the software in the newer units. Garmin tech service says that they took the detail away because it was cluttering up the screen. kinda hard to believe anyone was complaining about road names clutterin up a map screen, but that's what they say.

Garmin & "clutter"

Garmin says the detail was removed because of "clutter"...that may be true but they also want to keep the map redraws up at a certain frame rate. The previous units (7x0 & below) that had all the detail only updated the screen once every second (1 Hz). The newer units redraw the screen much more frequently (~10 Hz) and having alot of detail on the map, especially when zoomed out, would severely diminish the map redraw rate. I could really care less about the redraw rate since I'm driving and not fixed watching the GPS screen. The 37xx series OTOH has a much more robust processor and is able to offer more map detail at the high frame rate.

Garmin & "clutter"

I agree. can see no valid reason to remove detail from a unit....especially when we used to have 5 levles of user selected detail to display. Now it's only 3 levels and the most you can get is less than what used to be "normal". Guess they have to skimp somewhere to keep prices down.

Can I go back?

Can I go back to the older version. I really do not like the "less detail" and the far out zoom. I find it difficult to navigate unknown areas.
