Ok my question is I have a nuvi 760 and would like to have the topo maps of Az on the sd card.. Ok so does the map show only when the card is in or will it lay it over the city map or install it in the unit.. Garmin has them for $99 or so depending on how many states. I am just getting into off roading and it would be nice to see the trails I am on. thanks for any input you all may have.

Charlie. Nuvi 265 WT and Nuvi 2597 LMT. MapFactor Navigator - Offline Maps & GPS.
There's a free option, too

I have it in my eTrex for hiking and have it on a SD card in my nuvi as well, mostly for driving Forest Roads.
On the nuvi, City Navigator will display over the topo map so to be able to see the topo, you need to uncheck City Navigator. Touch Tools/Setings/Map/MapInfo. You'll see both City Nav and AZ topo checked. Uncheck City Nav to view the topo. When back on City Streets, go back and uncheck the topo and recheck the City Nav. With City Nav and topo, you can only see one map at a time. You can leave the SD card in the nuvi all the time even when you're not using the topo.
Note that free detailed topo maps for other states also can be found at the web site referenced above.

Good resource - thanks for mentioning.
Thanks for the link for the AZ topo download site.

good results with topo map with trail overlays
Some of the maps at gpsfiledepot will lay on top of the base map. They are identified as transparent. I've gone off-road in Az using the topo map with the trail overlays with good results.
