I am changing my policy about posting details about camera locations.....

It is time to crack this baby open.

I want to start seeing links to news reports posted and plans for new installations.

In order to get more people to the site we need to have more open discussions so that we show up in search engines.

I will be posting links as I do my research each week if you have not beat me to it already.

I don't want to see links from my competitors though.

I am no longer going to be a closed book on this topic.

I still expect to get emails from you reporting the locations.

Miss POI

Great

Good ideas about how to handle the camera locations. Who are the competitor sites? This and the Tips sites are the only 2 POI sites I visit.

Is that a new picture and haircut? Good picture, but great haircut.

Mention Specific Locations?

So we should be discussing specific locations?

In Nassau and Suffolk County NY the counties are keeping locations secret, as well as Newsday, the local newspaper. Links to Newsday are no good because it is a pay site except for today's news.

All camera locations are found and submitted by POI Factory members.

Washington Post Article about the

return of Redlight cameras to Northern VA

The following quote is all I have right now.

In Arlington, police obtained approval from VDOT last week to place cameras at five locations: four on Lee Highway and one at North Glebe Road and Fairfax Drive in Ballston.

Camera Locations

#1. Why would anybody want to post camera locations from competitors here - This is the best listing on the net!
#2. That said - since Florida enacted their law concerning Redlight Cameras and they get the bigger cut, here in Naples they haven't added any new cameras. I will keep you posted as they remove cameras.
#3. I like the picture.

I guess this one for Nassau County should do as we have been using it for quite a while now:

Red-light cameras vs. traffic cameras

Is it futile to ask those posting redlight camera locations to review the pictures of redlight vs. traffic cameras before completing a posting. In the DC area, there are probably over a thousand traffic-monitoring cameras vs. a couple hundred redlight cameras. (Yeah, I know it's a good idea to avoid running yellow lights in general, but the sound is annoying.)

I'm curious about where you find 'false alarms' in the DC area. I spend 99% of my driving time in Maryland/Montgomery County, but have not yet found an alert for non-ticket traffic cams.

What About "License Plate Verification Cameras"..!!..?

Miss POI

I just saw a news report, ie:

http://www.bradenton.com/2011/02/04/2930307/camera-proposal-...

..that has to do with proposed "License Plate Verification Cameras" in a neighboring town. Do you want us to include these as well?

New Speed Camera

Dang it, my wife just set up a speed camera watching my case of Old Bushmills Irish Whiskey. Now that is something to worry about!

My opinion even though you didn't ask for it.

Unlike red light cameras what are you going to do if you know there is a license plate camera? I don't see the need for a poi file but then that's just me.

Not a problem. Just move REALLY slow and you won't set off the camera. But I'm not responsible for what happens if your wife walks in on you during the heist!

Red Light Cameras

Someone told me that there is a bill about to be introduced in Tennessee pertaining to camera. Any knowledge?

I Just Wouldn't Go There..!

Like the town that was mentioned in the link I posted.. and to answer your question....

I just wouldn't go into that town for any reason.

Why does it seem like it's ok for the government to photograph and watch you.. yet if you try doing the same thing to them they feel it's a no-no..!!..?

I go to Walmart

Nuvi1300WTGPS wrote:

Just as one example, Walmart videos you.

Do you go to Walmart?

Why secret?

Why would a municipality keep the location of red light cameras secret? If the purpose is to stop red light runners, tell everyone where they are and thus create safer intersections.

another type of camera

Should we include bus lane camera locations? There is a pilot program in NYC that may cost you over $100 for driving in a bus lane. Is NYC the only city that is blessed with these beauties? I haven't been nailed yet, but it may be time to start a list...

I find them all over, but how about Connecticut & Bradley or Georgia & Seminary Road?

3 for 47

Good to know. I don't get to Conn & Bradley much and never noticed Ga & Seminary. Since my post I did notice one that's probably not speed or RL at Strathmore & Kenilworth though.

So far that's 3 out of about 47 for M.County. Not too hateful, but since Miss Poi is asking for posting of public links, maybe that will help 'prune' the list. 'All over' seemed a bit much from my experience, but then again I don't put on a lot of daily driving miles over a large area.

How about a compromise

Post that a new camera has been installed along with the town and state. Transmit the actual coordinates via email. Casual browsers will see that something new is being done, but will still have to be active or pay to get the exact locations. Us regulars just need to get the new file.

Just a thought...

Nuvi1300WTGPS

Pay close attention to your surroundings and you will be amazed (PO'd ?) how many "observation" devices are monitoring our activities.

Walmart, shopping centers, convenience stores, intersections, inside stores, parking lots, of course government buildings, airports, schools street corners and on and on and........

Just google webcams for your state for one example.

That doesn't include everyone with cellphone cameras either.....depending on what you're doing;)

Good idea

Many of the lights around here I have never been able to verify as I just do not drive around them...linking in references is easy.

Not sure if it's been posted

Not sure if it's been posted but I noticed a "flash" yesterday at the corner of Brick Blvd and Hooper Ave in NJ.

Upon driving up to the intersection, yep red light camera.

With that said, is there a way of seeing the list of camera locations?

I don't mind paying for the service, but want to make sure it has value for me.

Also, if subscribed can the downloaded list work for IGO8.3.

Thanks

Here is the coverage area

Yup, that location is in the file. You will find the RLC file to be very accurate and up to date.

Not familiar with the IGO system, but hopefully someone else here can answer that question.

Camera Locations

My only comment is - Why would anybody want to put a competitor's cameras on this site, when the best most up to date locations are already here. I someone wants to use another company's file then keep it on their gps and don't try to take credit for the cameras
