Questions Re: CoPilot Live for Android

The redlight warnings do not work.. the manual says its not available in the USA but I imported some data I use with my garmin and it doesnt alert me on copilot. I have MANY other issues with the program. I sent them to copilot support to HOPE they can help. Here they are and maybe someone on here can help with this:

Does anyone on here use COPILOT LIVE 8 USA? I have some issues and I wonder if anyone else can add some comments as to how to resolve? I have sent these to COPILOT SUPPORT but no response yet.. I am hoping to get all of these resolved:

1. I am alerted that I am at my destination BEFORE I actually get there. It also doesn’t tell me LEFT or right or ahead is my destination. Can this be resolved?

On my phone it alerts me when I arrive, not before. I wonder if its an issue with the address "location". Try creating a destination using a point on the map (as opposed to inputting an address) and see if it announces your arrival correctly.

As far as CoPilot announcing the destination on the left or right, that's something that would have to be added to the program by the developers. There are other gps manufacturers, TomTom for example, who don't announce the location of the destination.

2. I tested 2 addresses today with COPILOT and a GARMIN GPS. The Garmin was dead on while COPILOT was lost and had be going in circles. This was while I was in a development with a LOT of little side streets. Can this be fixed?

Not sure what to tell you. I've never encountered such a thing, although I've only been using CoPilot occasionally for the last three months.

3. when you get to your destination, it doesn’t give you the option to CLEAR the route. It asks me what I want to do but if I close the BOX, since I don’t want to do any of that, it keeps the route I am on. I noticed this as I use COPILOT to get home. Then today, I turned on copilot and it still said it was running the route to my house. I couldn’t find any way to clear it except to delete next stop. Then it cleared the route. I also see no way to click CANCEL ROUTE if you decide you don’t want to navigate to where you set. My Garmin has an "X" that I can hit to cancel route.

You're correct, the only way I've found to clear the route is to delete next stop. But if you think about it this is a good thing on your phone. If the route was deleted simply by closing CoPilot you would have to reenter everything any time you received a call or if you accidently closed CoPilot.

4. Program is missing a LOT of POI's .. For instance, I was sitting in a parking lot of WAL-MART which has been there for many years. It didn’t know this Wal-Mart existed. It did know about other ones nearby but not this one. Same with TARGET, I was sitting in a target parking lot and it didn’t know target was there.

Yes, CoPilot's built in POIs do not seem as extensive as Garmin's. But then again CoPilot has the free Live Local Search feature which basically can find every POI on the internet. So I'd say that beats Garmin's built in POIs any day!

5. Routing is wrong on some trips.. Sometimes it will tell me to turn left when you can't or when LEFT is the completely wrong way to go. How to fix?

Select MapSure under the menu and it will allow you to report missing streets or mapping errors.

ALK states that they will update the maps every 45 days. I reported some missing streets in my area at the beginning of November and they were indeed updated in the December release!!

6. I entered in SPEED TRAP DATA but it NEVER alerts me to any of them. I said YES to the fact I was importing SPEED TRAP data but it never did anything.. MEANWHILE, my Garmin did alert me.

Did you configure POI Alerts? Menu > Settings > POI Alerts.

Also make sure to tap the button on the bottom of the screen labeled "Select POIs to Alert". I deselected all of the stock POIs so only my custom POIs will alert.

7. It would be nice if I could pull addresses out of my EVO 4G address book so I don’t have to re-type them in and also if you could do voice entry of the data Like GOOGLE and SPRINT navigation already do.

Might be an issue with your EVO. On my Incredible I can select from my contacts. Menu > Destination > Contact.

It lists all of my contacts with addresses.

The voice entry does seem to be a bug. When I try to do voice entry the CoPilot app force closes.

8. It appears the maps are SEVERAL YEARS out of date. How do I get updated maps?

See item 5 above.

9. If I want to select a POI to travel to... I select the category, then pick my POI or type in the name.. Lets say WALMART. Then I find the walmart but then decide that wasn’t what I wanted. I then hit my back arrow on my phone and select a different category or maybe just type in a different name of a POI. When I then search for the new one, it brings me to the orig category and POI and NOT the new one. I have to completely back out back the main screen of copilot and then start over with finding a POI. I have to do this every time..

Try using the CoPilot back arrow (top left corner) instead of your phone's back arrow. That works.

On the other screens the phone's back arrow works fine, so it appears to be a bug in the POI search screens.

Thanks

** I tried several destinations and even POI's and it did the same. I will try what you suggested.

** I dont want it to clear if I answer the phone or turn it off. I want to do what my garmin does. WHEN I get to my destination and it alerts me I have reached my destination, On the Garmin, it stops routing. On COPILOT it doesnt. Lets say I get to my destination. Turn off the program and take my phone with me. Now I get back in the car later to go somewhere else. I start up COPILOT and it is still ROUTING to the destination where I ALREADY AM. I have to clear it out. I shouldnt have to do that.

THANKS for your responses. I also have someone from ALK talking to me through email trying to resolve all my issues...

I gave them specific street names and POIs and even my red light camera and speed trap files to test. We will see what comes of this. I really like this program...

Here is something I found

Here is something I found that relates to one of my issues:

http://forums.thoughtsmedia.com/f387/mini-review-copilot-liv...

I am still wrestling with the completed route situation though. Once you have arrived at your destination and the voice announces this, a window pops up and gives you 2 options. The first is to return to your original starting point and the second is to enter a new destination. However, if you do not want to do either of these and just close the window, your original destination stays programmed in and as you drive away it tries to get you to go back to the point you just left. The only way I have found to eliminate this is to physically go into Menu -> Plan/Edit Trip -> Clear.

I am not sure if this is another affect of the not so stable GPS signal though because once you have arrived at your destination and even after the voice announces it, your vehicle location appears to be several feet away from the destination flag. Perhaps this is the reason the the route is not automatically cleared.

Final Destination

I have Version 8 Truck Laptop. After reading your post I took mine out for a test. Doing the same thing as you report.

I arrive around 50 feet prior to my destination and does not reset itself either. Not sure why my Nuvi resets at the final destination but it does and so should Copilot.

One other thing that really bugs me is Copilot POI's. I have not found a POI in the correct location yet.

Other then that, I still like Copilot over all of the rest.

According to the user guide the safety camera alerts are not available in North America. So my guess is they've disabled the special alerts.

Right now when I use the POI alert and get within the alert distance the unit just announces "Point of Interest" and then the POI icon pops up on the screen.

Voice entry from the pop up keyboard on my phone. But on my Incredible the voice entry doesn't work. When you press the mic it allows you to speak your entry but when it tries to process the entry the program force closes.
