Just Curious... How often do you update POI's?

Every time I visit the site, I update my Favorite Files and check for new Speed and Redlight files.. So I know that my list is current...

But I usually don't Erase and Update my POI's but once a month or just before going on a roadtrip....

Is this about the norm here, or do you folks update your POI's more or less often?

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

I usually check my favorite

I usually check my favorite every visit, as it is just a click away, and dl to my poi file on my lap top. Then @ every month I will update my poi loader file and update the garmin.

All the worlds indeed a stage and we are merely players. Rush

I download most updates,

I download most updates, like the rlc, but really only load them up to the GPS when it is hooked up to the computer like once every two months or so.

Update POIs

I download the updates every time I am on the site. I update my Garmins every Friday.

Depends

I download updates when I'm on the site but only update once a month unless we are planning a trip.

--
Nuvi 750 and 755T

patterns change

I used to update my unit with every new poi downloaded. I now just keep my folder updated on my computer and upload that to the unit as needed. Once a month at a minimum.

I think you'll find this is quite prevalent among users that have bee dealing with POI on a regular basis.

Illiterate? Write for free help.

depends...

for redlight/speed camera POI, I downloaded new files after getting tickets...
for other POIs, I do it before my trip.

I usually check every day

I usually check every day and update every two weeks, depending on the poi.

The Exception

I guess I am the exception to the rule. I update my POI's whenever I am going on a business trip. This equates to about every 3 months or so. Before the actual trip, I will come to this site and download updates to "My Favorite Files". Then I will go to the Garmin site to check for map updates. Finally I will attach the GPS to the computer and do all updates.

I just use my Garmin very rarely around where I live. Since I do use it extensively on trips, that is when I update it.

I Update My GPS

I update my GPS's once per week. I check for updates of the POI files once per day.

Fred

POISYNC

I keep the POISYNC text file current with all my favorites, so all I need to do is run POISYNC about every two weeks, then load the GPS with POI Loader about once a month.

Normally every 2 weeks

but I check "My Favorite Files" daily (almost) and update sooner if there are a lot of important changes. I also update the red light camera file as soon as it comes out.

not often

only when I know I'm going to use it.

Monthly (and opportunistically)

Regular monthly checks and updates as part of maintaining digital devices, and then opportunistic checks a couple of days before a road trip to make sure things are current.

That also provides opportunities to clean the paw prints off the screen!

And when you put your GPS back in the car, why not take a moment to check your tire pressure? You should be doing that regularly as well!

Update POI

I check at least twice a day and update when a new poi on my favorites is updated.I delete the old file or files before I download the new files.

No need to delete the old file. Just click on it to keep the same name (I change the original poi name for my category purposes) and save it over the old file.

Updating POI Frequency

Check My Favorite Files daily and download to computer as replacements appear. Probably install on GPSr once every month or two (when my GPSr is in the house) or before a trip.

My Favorite

poi files get downloaded to my computer every couple of weeks or so. I update one of my backups that is on a flash drive at that time. My garmin does not get updated except as needed. It's been at least three months now.

Weekly

I download weekly and install about every two weeks.

I do it every time there is an update to red light/speed cameras or when I think of something funny to put in my gps. I usually update all my favorite poi files then.

When there's Enough Changes

I check on a weekly basis but I don't update each week. I usually wait until there's several additions or subtractions of cameras in my area before I download an update. I also only update those states that I think I might travel to, i.e., don't plan on going to NY so I don't worry about the cameras there.

--
OK.....so where the heck am I?

when planning a trip

I pretty much only update my POIs when planning a trip. Havent gone anywhere lately, so hence, no updates.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Quite Frequently Lately

In the past, I updated perhaps one every ninety days or so. Lately I have been updating perhaps every other week. Both Nassau and Suffolk County here on Long Island are rolling out Red Light Camera's at a fast pace and new ones are appearing in the POI list almost every week. It will calm down eventually but for now I need to update to make sure I have them all accounted for.

Once a week

I use POISync with an automated script to keep mine updated.

POISync

What is "POISync"? I update every week or so and use POIloader- it takes the old ones off and replaces them with the updated ones.

Update POI's

I check my favorites about everyday. I check for new POI's as I can.
I save all of my POI's on my external harddrive. I update my various POI files with the updated POI's and then I use POI Loader to convert them into my converted file of POI's. Once a week I copy all my converted POI's from the external hard drive to either my unit itself (mainly for traffic POI's) and/or to my SD Card.

Weekly Updates for me

Unless I am getting ready to travel and then may load some new files.

--
Nuvi 3597 LMT

updates

I generally update speed and red light camera poi's

Infrequently

I only update if I am going on a trip out of town. My local newspaper will tell me if there ar any new traffic cameras so there is no reason to update for that reason.

Sometimes if I am running tests, I will check my favorite files and do an update.

Updates

Update POI folder every time I visit (weekly) ...which I'm not sure why, since I update the GPS's probably once per month...

Update POIs

I used to update my POIs once a week but now I do once every 2 month

occasional updates

Like most everyone else, I usually update mine before I go on a trip - about once a month or so. Usual updates are redlight and speed cameras and any dining POI's.

Nearly every day

Every time I check out POI Factory I'll typically update the POIs that've changed since the last time. Definitely POI-happy as there are presently over 740,000+ custom POIs on my nuvi!

--
Garmin Drive 61, nuvi 2597MT, too many really.

Occasional Updates also

I may load the POI's once a week to my PC but the GPS every month or before a trip.

Check For Local Changes

I check the Redlight and Speed camera files for local and state changes then download only if needed. Favorites, the same. Look to see what's updated in the file (when info is available) and download as needed. Hook up the Gpsr's and update when necessary.

I update the red light POIs at least monthly or just before I go on a trip out of town (so I will not be surprised by a red light I don't know about)

POI Updates

I look for the "new" and always check the red light to see if it is updated...try to visit everyday...but that never happens...always something else to get in the way...other e-mails and taxes...ugh!
