How to recalibrate your touchscreen.

I asked Garmin how to recalibrate the touchscreen on my nuvi 1300. Here is what they said. It worked, by the way.

How to re-calibrate the screen.

"Pre 2.70 software: Press and hold the power button until the Touch Screen Calibration appears on the display (approximately 30 seconds)

2.70 software and later: Press and hold the upper left corner of the touchscreen and power the unit on. Once the unit powers on release the power button and continue to hold the corner until you get the press dot screen. Follow the dot on the screen to calibrate."

Cool

Good to know, thanks for the info. I recently upgraded the firmware in my 260w, so I'll check the new way to do this.

recalibrate the touchscreen ?

I did not know they ever needed recalibrating. What happens?
I would guess this would apply to other nuvis such as a 1450?

Thank you for the info.

When To Consider Recalibration

The need typically arises when/if you begin to notice that the letter you "know" you pressed is not what appears on the screen. FWIW, this was a well known issue with models in the 7_5 series and possibly others as well.

2x5 Series

1. Turn off the nüvi.
2. Hold the upper-left comer of the screen while turning on the nüvi
3. Release the power key when the Garmin screen appears.
4. Continue to hold the upper-left corner of the touch screen for 30 seconds until a white screen with "Press dot" appears.

For the best results, use a stylus and carefully press each calibration dot in the exact center and hold for a moment for registration to take place. You will then get a more accurate calibration.

I got that from Garmin.

I was having trouble with my replacement unit after warranty from Garmin. So they sent me that procedure.

You only need to do it if you are having trouble. It's doesn't get "off". But I might have gotten a unit that has had a replacement screen installed. And it was off.

I was getting wrong letters. Stuff like that.

How to recalibrate your touchscreen.

Anyone know how to do this on a 265WT?

Turn the unit on and hold

Turn the unit on and hold the power key to the left for about 30 seconds until calibration screen appears.See page 37 and 38 owners manual http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/2675_OwnersManual.pdf

Charlesd45 is correct for the 200/205 series running software version below 6.00, but just in case the person asking the question has a newer 265T, here is the Garmin answer.

I got to this because I checked the link and could not find the reference on pages 37 and 38 (but they are on 41 and 42 of the link) and are slightly different.

So, I checked the Garmin FAQs and found this.

To calibrate the touchscreen on your nuvi 200 series follow the steps below:

1.Have the unit turned OFF and unplugged from power.
2.Slide the power switch to the ON position and hold for about 45 seconds.
3.A message will display on the screen: Press Dot.
4.Once this message displays, release the Power button.
5.Press in the center of the Dot.
6.Keep pressing in the center of the Dot as it moves around the screen.
7.Once this is complete, there will be a message: Calibration Complete.
8.Touch Ok and the unit will restart.
The touchscreen will now be recalibrated.

*Note if unit is running software version 6.00 or newer you will want to follow steps from below.

To calibrate the touchscreen on your nuvi 205 series follow the steps below:

5.Once this message displays, remove your finger from the screen.
6.Press in the center of the Dot.
7.Keep pressing in the center of the Dot as it moves around the screen.
8.Once this is complete, there will be a message: Calibration Complete.

Quess I must be running version 6.00 on a 265WT.
The above worked just fine for me.
Thanks

Thanks for the info

I have been having some problems with touch screen sensitivity. Maybe this will help

Instead of doing the whole

Instead of doing the whole power on way, can you not just do it through the menus? I have done this many times on my father's Nuvi 350.

Dragging up an old thread-calibrate stil works

I bought a refurb 2797. It was fine (after revising Theme file LOL), but just didn't have the sensitivity of my 2597.

Never know what they'll take away after removing the contrast setting.

Holding the centere of the screen down while it powers up gets the word SYSTEM scrolling down in tiny letters for a while. Then just start hitting dots until it says you're done.

Soooo... all of that still works FWIW. It may be placebo, but it seems better to the touch. Even barely tapping a finger nail works, though I stay away from that scratch fest.

Awesome News!

thanks!

Thank You

I had to do this after l put a screen protector on. Which made sense as it changed the sensitivity a lot.
