First Time

This is the first time I have received an email from Garmin. But, I do not plan on downloading this since I only use English. I don't want to tie my computer up for another 2-3 hours.

Map Problem

Geez,

I guess I gotta spend another day doing nothing but updating my GPS Units.

Wouldn't you think Garmin could get it right by now ?

Guess I Was Wrong

I was on a week long vacation trip over the xmas holidays. Second day into it, I push the icon to enter an address, and the GPS says "No Map Data Available". The GPS worked OK but without map data, you really don't get to see when to turn, where you are at, etc. I have no clue why this occured or how the map data file got corrupted since I hadn't made any changes to the unit in over 3 weeks. I had been using the latest version of maps 2011. Luckily I always have AAA paper maps as backups. When I got to my hotel, I asked to use the Business Center PC so I could download the maps again from Garmin. No such luck. The PC wouldn't let me download the program needed to get my maps. Now I know why it is important to also bring my portable laptop with me on vacations. If I had brought it, I could have downloaded again the maps and used my GPS while on vacation. I am now home and loading the latest map with the corrections on it (here goes another 2-3 hours of downloading).

I also have heard people say what good are the red-light data we have on this site, just follow the law. I will tell you why they are important. I am not a speeder. I have only gotten 1 ticket in over 40 years. However, I was not paying attention, which can happen to anyone, and a camera flashed at me. I was going 46 in a 35 area. If my GPS had been working properly that day and telling me to slow down, I would not have gotten this ticket while on vacation.

Maybe an unselected map?

Is there any chance the map is still there but was unselected? Touch Tools/Settings/Map/MapInfo. Is City Navigator listed? Is it checked?

I received the email

I had forgotten all about it until now. One more thing on my to do list. I am not bilingual but my daughter is and she uses my gps. She may end up borrowing it when taking a trip with one of her Spanish only friends.
The only other time Garmin emailed me was to advertise accessories rolleyes

Gamrin POIs often out of date

I just downloaded nüMaps Lifetime™ North America 2011.31 and https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/mapDownloads/mapDownloads.htm says it Expires: Jan 4, 2012. 2011.31 was the only option provided me.

The last maps I had installed were nüMaps Lifetime™ North America 2010.40, Expired : Feb 5, 2010.

Ive never had a problem of running out of map and its not clear what these updates provide for me (other than a risk of my unit having new problems).

Now, I do have a problem with the POI provided by Garmin as it is often out of date and I end up at some business that has been closed for a while. OTOH, POI factory POIs always work well.

I hope this new 2011.31 update improves the internal POI provided by Garmin with more recent information.

Manage E-mail Notifications

Also, under Manage E-mail Notifications (Sign up for emails and manage your subscriptions here) at https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/accountSettings.fac...
I checked
1) Announcements about nüMaps Lifetime™
2) Please notify me by email of future map updates.

I previously had those checked, but have yet to receive any email regarding either one.

Yes, I had checked it and somehow the map was not listed. Haven't a clue. I have just reloaded the map data and everything is fine.

is it gone?

I thought I'll give the 2011.31 a whirl, can't find it. I have lifetime subscription and Garmin website still lists only 2011.30 for me.

Figured it out

Apparently they don't count it as update... so it's a redownload rather a new download.
