Issue with latest 2011 Map Update - Email from Garmin

Dear Garmin Customer,

Thank you for recently activating our City Navigator® North America NT 2011 map update. We want to thank you for choosing Garmin for all of your navigation and mapping needs. We value your business and work hard to be on the cutting edge of technological innovation while meeting the high expectations of people who use our products.

This notification is to let you know we recently discovered an issue with the North America map update that may cause you to experience difficulty selecting a state when your unit is set in a language other than English. We have corrected this download on our website.

If you wish to utilize the full range of language options provided on your Garmin unit, please sign in to your myGarmin account and download the corrected City Navigator North America NT 2011 map, for no additional fee.

If you plan to use only the English language on your unit then it is not necessary to download the corrected map.

How to re-download the map update:
1) Have your Garmin device ready to plug into your computer.

2) Go to this URL and sign in to your myGarmin account.
https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces

3) Select the "myMaps" tab at the top of the page.

4) Locate your device along with the City Navigator North America NT 2011 map associated with it.

5) Select "Download Again" to begin the process.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued patronage. Please contact Garmin Product Support with any questions or concerns and have a happy and safe holiday season.

Thanks,
Garmin

Well...

given all the time I spent doing the download I guess I am glad I only use English...

Maybe Garmin is getting it?

Is this not the first time garmin has sent out an email detailing a map problem and that they are fixing it?

Glad not an issue for English

I'm glad I don't need to use the other language versions. I cringe at the thought of downloading this update again.

.

lol i just got the email and headed here to post.

no concern here for me i only use English this is the first email from Garmin i ever received.

At least they are notifying everyone - some companies would just keep you hanging and when problems arise not do anything about it.

Who do you Trust?

When Garmin says this only applies to non English voices do you believe them?

I am heading for Florida next week and to be on the safe side I am downloading again to get the fix.

I received this too

Kind of funny, I received this email but I was never notified about the updated maps being available.

Since I only use English, I'll pass on the download.

Re: Maybe Garmin is getting it?

No, I don't believe so.

Based on an email exchange I've got going with them, no, they don't get it. Not only do they not "get it", they don't give a hoot about "it". sad

If English, don't waste your time.

Don't bother to "play it safe" and re-download the 2011.31 maps if all you use is the English language. Why waste your time? You will have plenty of practice when the next revision comes out, about the end of March 2011. Unfortunately, before this email was released, I installed and ended up with the older 2011.20 maps over again, backwards from the 2011.30 I had loaded.

I called Garmin. The CSR was very courteous and admitted he had not heard of the 2011.31 update. He transferred me to software support where an equally courteous person checked into this and found there was a minor release in the process of being configured. He helped me correct my older 2011.20 re-download.

So caveat emptor. If you're not careful with this update, you'll go backwards and have to do TWO 4-6 hour updates to get back to square one.

I also got the same email from garmin.
I'm not going to re-download again. I'm only using English language.I pass it

Kudos To Garmin For Being Proactive

Don't knock it if you want to see more. Now I'm curious how they became aware of the problem . . .

I got the email too....

As long as mine still speaks English, I see no reason to update.

After receiving this same email which by the way is my very first ever from Garmin. Now I wonder why they don't do the same for map updates ?

I would re-install, but there is a problem with installers!
tried re-downloading map updater for 2011.30 and it says (before I click Continue) that 2011.20 will be re-installed ??

then I cancel, and tried other link (for 2011.20) and it also says it will re-install 2011.20 ... 2 different updaters and same map (old) content ... WTH?

and I DO USE sometimes another language.

Garmin nuvi 2595LMT; Android 5.0 (Samsung GS3)

ahhh, you need to go to DETAILS before hitting re-download...

ahh, got it now ... you don't simply re-download 2011.30, you need to click See DETAILS and then select updated 2011.31 for it to work correctly ... hope it helps others who want to update without going back in time with maps.

EDIT:
weird, it's still says 2011.20 will be installed ... I chose to enter map Product Code manually in installer and copied it from website (for 2011.31) and pasted into installer.
it's re-installing map now, will see which version I get in the end.

Process time is not a problem for me, takes about 1hr tops for me.

Same email

Not long after my post above I got the same email..

Staying where I am with the maps I just finished installing last week though.

if you are going to florida

I would definitely download the map. My experience is the people there don't speak English. They speak Floridian which somewhat resembles a language spoken somewhere between New York City and Havana.

On Mac

It doesn't even tell which version it's installing. Ended up with 2011.20 - even though I selected 2011.31 for a re-download.

follow my instructions (copy and paste the 2011.31 map Product Code from MyGarmin website and use manual code entry in installer), it worked for me, I ended up with 2011.31 maps on GPS.

--

Is it also a MapSource change?

Did you go to the Advanced settings and re-downloaded it for your computer and device? Otherwise any routes you put in your Zumo may say "routes from older map version, recalculating."

The size is larger than the one downloaded earlier, so I'm guessing this will be 2011.31 - waiting to see for sure.

updated GPS only

dave817 wrote:

I have just updated the GPS unit at this time.

I barely use Mapsource, because my nuvi 275T GPS doesn't support custom routing anyways. using Mapsource for easy Waypoints management only before longer trips, nothing more.

I may however update MapSource next (Advanced Options, PC install only), but anyways I keep all the maps on GPS anyways, so I don't transfer any of them from PC to GPS, not using any fancy special map packages either, only regular ones from Garmin.

English only

I have to agree with dave817. If you only use English, I wouldn't bother. I have only one voice on my unit, and that's Jill.

Besides, isn't any one afraid of Garmin messing something else up in the process? mrgreen

I agree, it's not like I'm going down east, but then I don't think anything Garmin has could translate anything like this
"Lard tunderin' ders more slang in nfld den der is icecaps on da water!"

2011.31

I've entered the code manually and the new map version is 2011.31. Everything goes smooth and it should be done within next few minutes. I've just noticed the new img file is the same size as the old (2011.30) one (1,356,384 KB). So there is no difference in size as someone mentioned earlier.

?!

3D still same version

Downloaded the update by clicking on the only link shown in My Maps and it showed 2011.30. The download then showed to download 2011.31 click on Download. Did that and completed updating my 765T and now my unit shows CN North America NT 2011.30 3D and CN North America NT 2011.31 [1] All. I have the lifetime map.

What a pain in the ass.

What a pain in the ass. Don't they test this stuff?

yes

Peterock39 wrote:

yes but they couldn't possibly check the bazillion ways all the users may try and get info.

Most errors are found on a check of basic and other functions. Some are missed. Obviously they missed this one. No one here even noticed it until the email was sent out. That makes it a pretty minor item for the English speaking crowd, less so for whatever other languages were effected.

When was the last time you bought any software worth using and that was just out, that didn't have some glitches

I downloaded it Sunday and must have gotten the new version then...no e-mails saying otherwise.

You sure got that right! I only use English (I stick with Jack) and things work fine for me. I don't want to waste my time with an update I don't need and take the chance that Garmin has managed to bork something else in the process of this fix.

And I agree if they can email you for notifying of errors, why they can't email to advise you of an update.

Product liability claims on the errors. None? for update notifications.

Sounds like the last time you updated your map you may not have included all of the states to be installed.
