Illinois is enacting a policy now to force Amazon to collect sales tax from Illinois customers.
Texas has sent Amazon a tax bill for $250 million dollars because Amazon has a Distribution Center located in Texas. Amazon claims the Center is a Subsidiary and doesn't sell retail therefore refusing to pay.

You can really see the effect of competition from cell phone gps's in the price of stand-alone units this year. While the marketplace is growing, the number of ways that the need can be satisfied is also growing.
Perhaps next year we'll see subcutaneous implants!

I have to say I was not overly thrilled with the QC on the Magellan 5045. Mine was just one problem after another right out of the box. I opened the box and removed the sticker that shows a screen shot and much to my horror it looked like the screen was shattered. After looking more closely it was just all the glue from the back of the "sticker" was all over the screen, it took me 15 minutes just to get the screen clean.
Then I registered it and took it out for a test. First thing i noticed was on map poi's came up on map several 100 yards after you passed the poi. Not a real big deal but kind of annoying.
Then I was on a road and for some strange reason my icon just started moving off the road and into no where land before snapping back to the road.
Finally the last straw was when i tried out the navigation and it tried to make me go 1/10th of a mile further up the road and make a u turn to get to the road i was taking a left onto.
Perhaps mine was a lemon? I have no idea but i have returned it and purchased a Garmin. I have always owned Magellan but to tell the truth my 5 yr old Magellan seemed to work better than this new one did so i figured why not see what Garmin was like.
