This year I am going to let the community pick someone for this award. I will also pick a second person based on my behind the scenes insight as moderator.
JM has programmed a voting system for us. We are opening the voting booth for about three weeks starting December 13th, and voting will end at midnight December 31st (Eastern Time).
Voting is open to General Maintainers only. You have to be a General Maintainer to vote, and you have to be one to get voted for. (And you can't vote for me. )
Here is a link to a list of all the General Maintainers:
www.poi-factory.com/pfu/general-maintainer-list
Here is a link to the voting summary:
www.poi-factory.com/pfvote/summary
You only get to vote for one person; however you can change your vote if you decide to vote for someone else.
This discussion thread will be your place to rally votes for your favorite contributors.
Miss POI
Something must be done to get people to NOTICE...
There has been about a 10% "voter turnout" so far.
Well then...something MUST be done! Maybe free rides to the polling place...or maybe candidates can promise a chicken in every pot. Something must be done to get people to NOTICE... Oh, I know - Miss POI needs to talk a little sweeter to Jon so he'll do what was suggested. You know - wink, wink...smile...come hither Jon.

Then it would probably take longer to get done.

Well, I won't promise a chicken in every pot, but I will treat everyone who votes for me to the all-you-can-eat buffet this Sunday at Chik-fil-A

My favorite years for muscle cars is 1965-1970. 69 was a really great year.
I like the Barracuda, Camaro, Shelby Mustang. After those years the cars started to lose the body shape that I like.
Miss POI
Ahh, those were the days. 440 six pack in a Cuda was the fastest stock vehicle I've ever driven!. Always was a MoPar guy, but 69 Camaro..hot. Nice, clean mid-60's Nova's w/crazy engine transplants grabbed me, too. ..Old school Cragar's...

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

Almost..
Not a 440 6-pack, but a Hemi w/2 4's will do, too.

The vote so far.....
Here are the top 5 vote getters as of this morning:
These are in no particular order:
charlesd45
Motorcycle Mama
DorkusNimrod
mahoney
turboccc
We still have a week and a half to determine who gets a tree added to their mantel. We already have the award icon selected, it is really pretty.
Have you voted yet? Get to it people.

Here's something you could do that would catch everyone's attention - change the title to this thread to: ALL POI MEMBERS - LOOK AT THIS!!!
Then, whenever this thread appears in the "Active Forum Topics" it will prompt them to read it...and vote.

Voting is open to General Maintainers only. You have to be a General Maintainer to vote, and you have to be one to get voted for.
...
Yes YOU are Correct !
Yes camerabob.............Apollo it is.........I had a brain short circuit and you caught it. Thanks.
Don't ask don't tell
What percentage have voted so far?
Another number that caught my attention as of 12/20/10 5:54pm EST 83 people have voted for 33 Maintainers leading me to relieve that many are voting for themselves just because they got a Maintainer badge.
I thought the idea was to vote for the most prolific contributors, Voting for 2010 Contributors of the Year, either by files contributed or post made.
Some of the voted for have never contributed a single file and are names that very seldom see on the day to day posts.

Well, I didn't vote for myself.

I know how the priviledge is earned but we were asked by the OP, Voting for 2010 Contributors of the Year
I'm a maintainer because I earned the badge but don't consider myself a good candidate for Contributor of the Year

I figured many Maintainers would vote for themselves.

Yes, I figured many Maintainers would vote for themselves. Hopefully now that Miss POI has listed the top 5 vote getters those people that voted for themselves will change their vote to a [more] worthy candidate deserving of the award.
I still would like to know what percentage (of those able to vote) have cast their vote.

I'm sure Miss POI and Jon know who voted for whom, from the logs. How embarrassing to have voted for yourself!

I agree with flacoand juggernaut it would be embarrassing to vote for yourself when there are a few that really do post very helpful info. I have several poi's but wouldn't vote for myself.

Miss POI
....is deserving of this award. I voted early (and would have voted often, but that is not allowed)
for one of these five people. Everyone of these people are deserving due to their contributions to the site. Whether it be generally helping out people with advice, maintaining POI's, or developing programs that make things easier for all of us, they are all deserving of this award. Good luck to each one of you. I look forward in seeing who the winner will be.

if a Maintainer DOES NOT VOTE, they lose their Maintainer status
Maybe a good idea to get General Maintainers to cast their vote would be - if a General Maintainer DOES NOT VOTE, they lose their General Maintainer status.
The way I look at it is - if a General Maintainer isn't capable of casting their vote for a special peer award then they are not worthy of having the status of a "maintainer".
Politicians and Diapers must be changed often for the exact same reason...

A terrible idea...
I agree with craigw, there are a lot of people that use the site for info and post poi's but sit back and just read or post to keep their windmills. They either don't like to get involved in discussions or they may be to busy to keep up. That is what is nice about this site you determine how involved you want to be.

Can we trust Miss POI ?
I think I tried... And yes, I like being enigmatic. Makes me feel warm and cozy all over. And it's freezing outside !!!

Why is it a bad idea? Don't you think General Maintainers are active members? And if so, don't you think that an active General Maintainer could (and should) spend 30 seconds to cast their vote for a special annual award for a peer?

If they aren't willing to vote once a year then they aren't too

I totally disagree...if I understand the rules correctly. It's my understanding that only General Maintainers can vote. I have no problem with any member, including General Maintainers, just using the site for information and POIs, but certainly a General Maintainer can spend 30 seconds to vote. If a General Maintainer can do the very minimum to keep their windmills by making a single post once a week or so - they should also vote. If they aren't willing to vote once a year then they aren't too much of a special member.
Politicians and Diapers must be changed often for the exact same reason...
General Maintainer
Then maybe the requirement to be a general maintainer needs to be relooked at and maybe different requriment for them to keep their general maintainer status. Not advocating a change just a comment.

Miss POI, is it possible in giving us the latest statistics as you have done in the past http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26997 to help those that are undecided.

Is it just
Is it just me or have others found it difficult to vote simply because it's not obvious how you do it?
The original post by Miss POI doesn't mention that there is no actual voting place on this site (at least that I saw) but that you have to pick a maintainer from the list she links to and then scroll to the bottom of the maintainers page to vote for that person.

I have only been round the rodeo for a few months. Hardly enough time (in my opinion) to make a worthy choice for contributor of the year (or COY!). I will probably end up voting, but am currently involved in research
, so bear with me if my vote doesn't happen until New Year's Eve.
