I am so confused already.

With my 1490T I seem to have "recurring-deleted favorites syndrome."

Favorites that I delete somehow re-appear on my favorites list. Sometimes, after I have replaced a favorite with an "updated" favorite with address information, for example, the "old" favorite without the address re-appears, and the new one is gone. Sometimes they BOTH show up.

About once a week I find myself "reviewing" my favorites to see who has re-appeared, and whose information or address has dis-appeared.

Any one else have this kind of challenge?

May I suggest...

Delete the old Current.gpx, after you replace it with the new 'Temp.gpx, then reboot. I think your problem will be solved.

As well, I have a habit of opening 'My Favorites' with EPE, and then saving them, not only to my SD card, but to the computer in the event of a disaster. It can be a real boon.

I am not quite sure what you are saying:

Is this it:

Make a copy of the temp.gpx, rename it current.gpx, and then overwrite/replace the current.gpx with the renamed temp.gpx. Finally, delete the Current.gpx, and reboot the gps. I do all this in Windows, except for rebooting the gps.

I am not sure that that is what you are suggesting I do.

I'm really

I'm really not sure what you are actually doing but for sure you don't rename the temp.gpx file. The temp.gpx file is transferred to the Nuvi then when you boot the gps the temp.gpx file is used to create a new current.gpx. No rename is required.

How are you deleting your favorites? If you delete them using the facility on the Nuvi they should be permanently deleted. If your deleting them by transferring the current.gpx to the PC and getting rid of them there then you may find they don't get deleted. The Nuvi hold a copy of current.gpx in non user accessible memory so if you've deleted a favorite on the PC the Nuvi will still display it as it still exists in the 'copy'. That's why you need to delete the favorite using the Nuvi's delete favorite function.

EPE maybe able to do this but I've always used the built in ability on the Nuvi.

I am getting less conbfused

t923347,

OK, my temp.gpx file is dated 10-15, and the current it the current date.

Thanks for the explanation of how the nuvi uses the two files.

I am deleting favorites using the nuvi. That is what is so confusing: I delete them, and they still show up later.

Maybe I should make a copy of the current.gpx and reaname it temp.gpx, and then overwrite the temp.gpx file on the nuvi. That may have been Juggernaut's suggestion. I'm not sure.

Connect your gps to the computer and open up the Garmin drive.Click on Garmin folder then the Gpx folder. You should see Current.gpx.Look for any other files with the gpx extensions and delete them.Dis-connect gps from computer and manually delete the favorites you don't want. When you send favorites from Google,Mapquest,Bing,Extra Poi Editor a separate gpx file is created that loads to the current.gpx once you reboot the gps.The problem is that the extra file or files stays there. When you delete the favorites from the gps manually the files on the drive reload back to current.gpx .

If you are not sure about any of the files with the gpx extensions just open it up with Extra Poi Editor to see what it is.

Not so confused anymore.

Thanks charlesd45, that took care of it. I had a temp.gpx file that I had transferred via mapsource, with my favorites from my c340.

Apparently, favorites were also being loaded from it, too.

I deleted that temp.gpx in windows, then booted up my 1490, and deleted duplicate and unwanted favorites manually. Then I rebooted the 1490, the unwanted favorites were still gone, and when I plugged my gps into the computer there is no temp.gpx file there anymore.

I now know what happens when I use MapSource to send favorites to my gps.

Hint for using MapSource or RoadTrip

When using those two programs to manage your favorites (aka waypoints) first thing to do is hook up your computer, and download your favorites... then disconnect your GPSr and go through the process to delete the favorites... then, do your thing on the computer to fix or add what you want - then upload to your GPSr... that way you won't have any duplicates. I know - kind of a pain - but that's what works for me.
