205 W Slow Down

OK, I added a bunch of POI's and am not happy with the results. They all seem to be at least a block off from their actual location. The unit slows down so that even the cross streets don't keep up with speed of travel. I even switched to 2d, it still can't keep up.

Is the processor not able to keep up with the extra info? I'm thinking about removing the extra POI's to see if the unit can keep up with the factory POI's. What is the best way to do this?

Use POI Loader

When you start POI Loader, you're given the option of deleting the currently loaded POI files.

205 W Slow Down

Woodduck17,

I've got the same unit and have it loaded with lots of extra info. Haven't had any problems with the unit slowing down. Maybe it's another problem. Try unloading the extra and see if the problem continues. Good luck.

Is memory overloaded?

How many POIs did you load? Is there other content such as photos taking up memory? Are you viewing photos while driving?

Do you have additional maps in the nuvi?

Have you imported info from MapSource or other software which may leave additional unused files in the nuvi?

My policy is to free up as much memory as possible by deleting unused languages or voices. Clear the trip log regularly.

I don't have any photos or

I don't have any photos or additional maps loaded on the unit. I have 163115 POI's loaded. Does this seem like a lot? I will erase the trip log.

Not to me

That doesn't seem like a lot of POIs to me. I have more on my 750 and 855. I doubt the POIs are causing the slowdown, so the thought of erasing the trip log is a good next step. If that doesn't work, maybe try a hard reset:

According to the manual,

If you have changed the settings at - Tools > Settings > Map > Map detail to show more detail, this can slow down the drawing of the map.

I have half as many and mine slowed down a bit too. It is not keeping the position quite as accurate as before, as if lagging a second or 2 behind, but I do have custom icons and sound for the POIs, which may be the problem.

I did get rid of all custom POIs before re-loading them, so that didn't fix anything. I believe it may be the custom stuff (icons and sound). Also, as I suspected, "defragmenting" the nuvi didn't help either. Most likely your 750 and 855 use a much faster CPU.

Still running slow

I reduced the number of Custom POI's. Still running slow.

Here's what I am gonna try now. I put the POI's on an SD card instead of the built-in memory. I'm hoping the processor will handle the extra info differently.

Will report later if this has any effect.

Update

Well, putting them on the SD card didn't help. I guess the processor just can't handle the extra info.

Funny

I just added more POIs (double the amount) and it is performing a little faster. Still lags a bit, but not as much as before. Go figure... haven't changed the custom sounds or anything else except that I merged 2 POI lists.

Nuvi 205 slow down

I know this is an old thread but I had a friend load a ton of POIs and never gave it a thought. Then many months later I asked for the unit to plot a course and the map could not keep up. This did not happen when I was on just map view tracing my location but it did act slow when using a predefined course. I removed all the POIs and it works as it did before. I will slowly add the needed POIs and watch the performance. I didn't really need to know where all the banks were located, just Tim Hortons.
