Sound Files

I noticed that Jill and Jack, the only American Red Light Camera sound files here, are computer generated and a little herky jerky. Does anyone know of other sources of American voices?

I created my own this time (it's easy) so not that big of a deal but....just curious.

Voice

You can make your own wav files since your units don't play mp3's by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say .Down arrow at top allows for various voice selections. Also you can use your own voice. If you need to convert to a Mp3 use a program to convert wav files to mp3. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono.

Thanks

Thanks. I tried a few on that web site but they sound pretty computerized to me.

I am able to create WAV and MP3 using several Windows recorders that I have. I also have a microphone so that I can record actual human voices. I was just wondering what else might be out there already recorded (not computerized voices).

I may stick to using local voices here.

Maybe BobDee will chime

Maybe BobDee will chime in.He done a lot of the conversion of the mp3's to wav.He has also make some with sounds with the voice.I have a good one for redlights with the police siren in it.It gets your attention when the gps alerts you.

For my roommate's GPS, I

For my roommate's GPS, I used the AT&T site to create three alerts with the American female voice:

"Attention. There is a rest area ahead."

"Warning. Red light camera in area. Do not cross white stop line when light is red."

"Warning. Speed limit enforced by camera. Do not exceed posted speed limit."

My GPS uses the Rest Area alert I created for my roommate, but replaces the red light and speed camera alerts with a high quality copy of the Star Trek red alert klaxon ripped from the sound effects CD. I find the klaxon to work better and really serves to get your attention.

Garmin Voice Studio

What does Garmin Voice Studio do that Windows Recorder doesn't? That link is pretty vague. Perhaps it can save as MP3?

Garmin Voice Studio

The idea behind Garmin Voice Studio is that you can customize the voice directions using your own voice. I thought it sounded less computer generated. It was just something to look at.
