map software

I need some help from some of you TomTom guys. A friend just bought one and I'm a Garmin guy so I can't give him much help. Does TomTom have any mapping software like MapSource for Garmin. Also how does he load POIs from the poi-factory.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

This will help on the pois

This will help on the pois http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6661 . Also Extra Poi Editor will give you a file in the Tom Tom format http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor

Nothing Like MapSource

TT does not have a program like MapSource. That was one of the things I missed when I went to my GO930. It does have a route planner he can access on TT Home, but it is not the same.

He can pre-plan routes (called Itineraries) and save them. One thing to know before creating an Itinerary, is that you add new waypoints or destinations in the order you are going to visit or pass by them. You can rearrange them once they have been selected, but it is a cumbersome process.

One thing about the way TT does route planning that I think your friend will like is when you force a route through a city/town. Garmin will try to take you downtown. TT will take you through that city/town on the Hwy you are currently on, which is what most people want.

Thanks for heading up, great resource!

You Are Welcome

It is a good program.

I like to use it to "chart" my own trip sometimes!
