Garmin email - numaps price cut on 21 Sep 2010

Greetings,

I just got an email from Garmin about numaps City Navigator NA NT update price drops!

The new Garmin list price for lifetime map updates is $89.99 for either card or download. They also say the OneTime update has dropped in price but Garmin's site won't tell me for sure although one page says $49.99.

Let's hope the 3rd party sellers soon revise their prices downwards, too.

I just got the same e-mail notice. Makes you wonder how low the others will be droping in price.

Old news

I got the same email from Garmin today too. I figured it was a new, additional price drop over the one they instituted several weeks ago. It isn't. It;s actually the announcement for that price drop, which I took advantage of nearly two months ago.

Don't understand why it took them so long though, you'd think a price drop announcement would PROCEED the drop, not follow it more than a month after it went into effect.

Ouch

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Amazon has it for $75.95 and if you search other threads you'll see other retailers have it for even less.

If you can cancel your order, you should.

.

Yesterday, I received an email from Garmin, that new maps were available. I thought 'Wow, that's ahead of schedule'! Went to the site with no update in sight, aside from an unknown 'Software' update. Went to the web updater, and nothing new was at the top of the list.

Anyone know what the mystery update(s) are?

Free updates

Take a look at the Garmin site. There are a NUMBER of units that have free maps for life, and others that have free traffic for life. As a Nuvi 885T owner, I'm a bit skeptical about "for life" but am not willing to abandon Garmin for my automotive uses - yet.

I am registered with Garmin and do not get any emails. Is there something more that I have to do to get on the email list?

I got the following options checked:
Announcements about Automotive Products
Please notify me by email of future map updates

It's been almost 2 years. I've got 0 email notification from Garmin.

E-Mail Also

I received the E-Mail from Garmin as well. However, I believe this notification is only after-the-fact. I am pretty sure the lower prices we have been seeing on Amazon.com and ErwinComputers.com since August are related to this price cut. They probably reduced the wholesale pricing to their resellers some time ago and only now are getting around to letting folks know about their own pricing.

I have mine, purchased for $79.95 back in August, still waiting to be activated. I was already up to date so I am waiting for 2011.30.

Got it for $68 shipped...

Sorry, but I got my for $68 shipped several weeks ago.

If Garmin lowers their

If Garmin lowers their price, the others will have to follow. There is still a recession going on, regardless of the news media(and Washington) wants to tell you, after all it is election time.

It All Depends

As I mentioned in my earlier post, it all depends on what Garmin charges the resellers. If they are paying $65 wholesale per update to Garmin, they would be crazy to sell them for $60 unless they are looking for a loss leader. What we do not know is are the reseller prices from Amazon.com and others now based on a reduction in prices to the resellers already in place or is there another reduction coming down the line based on Garmin's new price reduction? This is the first reduction I have seen from Garmin yet the resellers have cut by about $10 since late July.

Thanks to the other members here at the Factory, the heads up on software updates, maps, price cuts or whatever else is much quicker than Garmin could ever be.

Incredible though how you can be signed up for email notification and never get one single email from them.

Very efficient & professional on Garmins behalf.

Read my post again. Slowly. And, I already have LT updates. The jist of my post was, Garmin sent an update notice for the 2011.20 maps. Only 2 months late...

But, as I said, there was a SW update available, but nothing in web updater.

So, do you use bifocals? The next pair is on me! wink

I never seem to get the good deals

If I buy a GPS, Numaps, just about anything, the price will drop dramatically in a year or so....

I should learn to wait for the better deal. This makes me rethink the Oregon 550 I was going to buy, maybe best to wait until next Summer.

Thanks but that's not it either

I get 0 spam (believe it or not). Those that make it to my spam folder are from online retailers where I've purchased something before such as newegg, Hilton hotel in Vegas (that's because I've booked a room online) and so on.

0 "spam" from Garmin.

no email

I am not getting any email from Garmin either. I just re-subscribed so I will see if that helps.

Again, thanks for the reply but I'm positive my mail setting has nothing to do with it. I won't bother trying to make it work. I get Garmin news quicker on this site anyway.
