SoCal Stop Sign Camera Locations Revealed

Another Cash Cow

This is just another way to fleece the public so that the municipalities can increase their revenues for funding. They should consider cutting wasted funding on the budgets. Much of this revenue will probably be wasted anyway.

Huh

I didn't know stop sign cameras even existed.

Do you know of any...

If you live in this municipality, do you know of any 'wasted funding". If you live somewhere else, can you tell us of any "wasted funding" in your city?

!

Please.

You first.

Let's start with the fundamentals rather than obscure the topic with the inevitable debate over appropriate use of funds.

Show me the link to the productivity comparison of local government to private sector .. for a start.

Camera

First of all there are signs saying it is a photo enforced stop sign. And it is a STOP sign so that means stop not stop if someone is coming. That is yield right? I hate the stop light cameras as I feel they may cause some problems simply because of the variables of a stop light. But a stop sign camera I do not feel bad for people. Stop means stop and it never changes. JMO

OK - let's stipulate that the public sector is, in general, less productive than the private sector.

Will you now tell me what that has to do with a question asking for examples of "wasted funding" in municipal government?

Just saw this on my local news TV channel

It seems these stop sign cameras are located on private land and are not included in the public domain covered by the CA DMV. The cameras only photograph the rear of the car (to get license numbers) and not the driver.

I predict these "private" cameras and the fines associated with them will be outlawed unless they comply with the CA DMV regulations. (i.e. photograph the driver).

You're kidding, right?

JD4x4 responded to a question that I had asked panama about “wasted funding” in SoCal municipalities by saying

I took his comments to mean before we (in the thread) could have the “inevitable debate over appropriate use of funds”, I had to produce links to “the productivity comparison of local government to private sector”. When JD4x4 added “.. for a start”, I knew there could be a long and generally not useful debate - even if I could find a comparison.

So, I said “OK - let's stipulate that the public sector is, in general, less productive than the private sector” so that we could move on to the debate over appropriate uses of funds by municipalities.

Then I asked JD4x4 specifically what “the productivity comparison of local government to private sector” had to do with my asking him “for examples of "wasted funding" in municipal government?.

His response was “You're kidding, right?”

And, my answer is no; I was not kidding. I had been prompted to ask the question because

People are saying that cameras are for revenue generation only and, for that reason, should be banned. If they are banned, I would hope that those who supported the ban would have ideas about how to make up for the resulting shortfall in municipal revenue.

Does that not seem like a logical question to ask?

Besides...

The only ones getting 'fleeced' are the ones that don't stop at the sign that says "STOP". Sounds simple enough to me.

Nice article

This is good information. $175 is a lot of money. I have to agree that if I saw a stop sign with photo enforced, I would pay extra attention to making sure I made a complete stop.

Also apologies to nickjr for feeding the trolls.

Not gonna do it again.

Really

I didn't know they existed either. I know about the light cameras. But cameras on stop signs?

I haven't driven in southern

I haven't driven in southern california in quite a while. This is good to know. Us Californians are sooo used to rolling stops that this is going to be hard to break a bad habit. I know we are all supposed to come to a complete stop, but who does? I even seen the police do rolling stops but I guess they are above law (lol). I hope this doesn't go nationwide.!!!

Stop Sign Cameras -

Leave it to California. I hope they have to return all the money cheated out of the drivers and pay over time for office staff to do the work.

If they think there is a need, an officer should be setting there watching the sign to catch (legally) the drivers who roll through the sign.

Sorry If it's to Me

If that was aimed at me, then I apologize for that as well. My original comment was a failed attempt to prevent another thread hijacking. I've found myself to be gullible enough to inadvertently been party to it in other threads, and my last post here was to indicate that I'm going to try not to in the future.

This is a great site because of it's diversity but I'm going to try real hard to throttle back on having opinion discussions.

No reply expected, case closed.
