My old trusty and rusty Garmin

My old trusty and rusty Nuvi 350 locked up on me for the first time ever. The screen didn't update or move for about 30 seconds while driving...it was really unsettling. Since this is an older model and it's the first time it ever did this (that I'm aware of anyways), does this mean it's beginning to break down? I'm going on a long trip next weekend so I'm updating it and making a backup of all its data right now.

Maybe lost satelites

I could have been nothing more than a temporary loss of satelites.

Where did it happen? open road or in town?

I've had a 350 for years. It

I've had a 350 for years. It has done something similar a few times, but it has never failed to come back after a reset (the button on the back under the antenna).

maybe a low charge?

not sure if it was plugged in or running on battery, but might be contributing cause...

My 360 has locked up a few times, but a turn-off, turn-on has generally 'fixed' the problem.

My 350 is still running

My 350 is still running fine. It has locked once or twice on some long trips. The reset button on the back brings it back from near death every time.

I suspect that it is local maps that are odd or changed from what roads exist in reality, but can't prove it.

Don't give up.

Suggestion

Their are multiple reasons why the unit would suddenly lock up but wait and see if it happens again or if it was just a one time thing.

If it does I would start by doing a hard reset http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26136 and if the problem still persits, report back and we'll try something else.

Cheers

Nothing but open desert all around me.

Happened to me twice on

Happened to me twice on roughly same location. I suspected my map. Did a hard reset to bring it back

stuff happens . . .

don't give up on it . . . the older it gets, the more "experienced" it is . . . I doubt it's anything but the normal stuff you have to deal with from electronic devices.

Same with my 360 as well.

no bells, no frills, but it does what I bought it for, gets me where I want to be, amazing...I love it! Seems that the more they have on them, the more chances there are to go on the fritz!!

"Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight, make me a child again, just for tonight."

My 350 has done that a number of times...

...when recalculating. It always comes back with a hard reset. Nothing is perfect, and as others have said, fancier and more complex models coming out now, in the ever more harried time frame of release and quickly replace, seems a sure-fire way to have more bugs than trusty and rusty 350's. I'm sticking with my tried and true for another year or two, and waiting for it to die all together.

If It Ain't Broke Don't Replace It

Because the more expensive new version almost certainly won't have the functionality of the old one. Garmin likes to dumb down its products that way; I expect most other GPS mfrs do too.

Wow, didn't realize so many

Wow, didn't realize so many people still using their Nuvi 350 still like me. Mine has the speaker failed on it already so I get absolutely no sound out of it anymore, unless I plug in the aux. Anyone run into something similar and know of a way to resurrect the speaker?

I still have my Nuvi 360 and

I still have my Nuvi 360 and still use it today...heck even with the new things coming out...I don't see a reason to upgrade unless mine breaks beyond economic repair wink

765t been locking

I have a 765r. It has locked up, requiring a restart about 7 or 8 times since it was new! I thought that was just something that they all do from tim to time.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.
