Was good while it lasted... (USB Device not recognized)

I plugged my Nuvin into my recently built XP workstation, and I get "USB Device not recognized. One of the USB devices...blah-blah-blah...." No more drive access to the unit, no more POI loading, no more updates.... What the heck???

Anyone?

Whacked gstart, POIloader, Mapsource, USB drivers and reinstalled all that stuff to no avail.

I had the same problem on an old 2820. They had me ship it back and supposedly replacement it with another unit and updated the maps while they had it.

Then this year I went to update the maps again and I get the same exact error. My NUVI doesn't have the problem, so I know its the 2820.

Anyway, the 2820 is my father-in-law's and he's considering a new vendor. He's not thrilled with the Garmin service or device. Part of the problem is the unit is so old, so that probably doesn't help, but if its broke he is prejudice that its Garmin.

SP 2820

sharper4, I don't know anything about StreetPilots, but it seems I have read there may be some special USB drivers and extra steps you need to do on them ... select storage mode from the menu or something similar? Hopefully someone here can help you out.

Yeah, Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump ... a most memorable line and a movie that is hard to beat.

They're so small, they're hard to vacuum out of the capet. Quite a mess to clean up.

call me old school. I still keep a bit bucket under the desk that gets emptied less frequently than it used to, but then I no longer program.

Bit buckets are great for those pesky ethernet leaks.

My Bit Bucket stays close to where I plug in my USB devices. I always hold the device over the bucket when connecting or disconnecting the plug. Saves cleanups after failing to safe eject.

It's here!

The 17 cent cable arrived today. The darned thing works fine Grrr..... I wonder what the hey happened to the cable I was originally using... Why did it stop functioning correctly after working correctly for months.?.? Anyway I now have 2 good cables. One difference though: The $7 cable is 6 feet long while the 17 cent cable is about 11 inches long wink Guess I'll leave that sucker at work. smile

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

" not recognized"

took the hint about cables- THAT DID IT!! Had some universal adapter cable system with a plug that fit the 3790LMT. plugged it in, my MacPro recognized the device right away and I'll be happily updating my maps in mere moments.... The supplied cable must be crap if so many people are having the same problem!
