diashboard disc mount

I need to remove the disc mount from the dashboard. Any suggestions as to how/whether this can be done. Also what adhesive can be used to install it on another car.

With appreciation

John

.

If you just slowly peel it with firm pressure, it will come loose.

Garmin sells replacement adhesive disks.

hair dryer

You might be able to warm it up with a hair dryer? Not sure what residue will be left on the dash board after it comes off?
I prefer the windshield mount myself. Then when you move it you dont have to worry about it.

Just let the car sit with the sun on the disc to warm it up

Just let the car sit with the sun on the disc to warm it up. Then use a rounded putty knife or something similar to get under the edge and slowly lift it while keeping steady pressure till it is off. Use some alcohol to remove any residue from the dash.

.

Try a guitar string ( high E) and slowly work it through.

Dental Floss -

Plain dental floss - not the ribbon type nor flavored - is great for things like this. Let it get warm in the sun then slide the dental floss under it and "slice" it away from the dash. Works as good as a guitar string - sorry Juggernaut - and is a lot cheaper.

After that - you might consider a bean bag. Works better and removes a lot easier.

The more the merrier! Good thought!

Monofilament fishing line works well too. Should be at least 4 lb test.

When you have the disc removed by your favourite procedure listed above, remove all adhesive tape from the disc and apply some two sided tape, which is available at any automotive type store or body shop/car dealership.

Why not leave it?

I left mine on there when I sold the car and just bought another disc. I think I got a pack of two for maybe $10 or so. Search for Garmin Dash Disc on eBay.

Alcohol!!

Alcohol will dull the surface of the dash and depending on what kind of plastic it is it could soften and distort it. I have had years of experience removing labels from old video cassettes. Try to remove it slowly and then use the disk as a tack rag by tapping the area with the glue side of the removed disk. You can try a hair dryer but that also could make a mess. I have had good results using erasers. It balls up the glue into clumps and what is left can be wiped off with a damp towel and a bit of detergent.

If you want to use alcohol then do as they suggest on some labels. Try it first in a area that isn't too visible.

Best of luck.

velcro

I couldnt get my disc thing to stick on the dash, It might have been because I use alot of armor all on the dash an not stick as well. I went to menards and got some velcro strips, cut them and it holds pretty good.I haven't tryed peeling off it yet though.

Velcro..

Ahhh.. "Velcro". Good idea.
