City Navigator NA NT updates -- no more multiple downloads...

Greetings,

I won't be able to confirm this until I do my next update in about three months, but maybe someone updating to 2011.20 soon who has multiple lifetime numaps subscriptions for their GPS units can check this out.

If true--and I assume it is--this is great, especially for folks with slow internet connections or a monthly download limit and who do multiple map updates. This is great news and probably shows that Garmin does listen to its customers' concerns.

This is a copy of an email I received from a POI Factory member who wishes to remain anonymous:

You (and others) had mentioned a while back that it would be nice if you didn't have to redownload the map update files for both of your devices. I wanted to let you know that this is now an option. If you click the "Advanced" (now called "Install Options") button, there will be a checkbox to leave the temporary download files used to build the map image.

Please note that you must check this each and every time you run the software or it will clean up after itself. The map files are saved to the %temp% directory so Garmin is obliged to clean up unless the user chooses to leave them.

Nice!

This is great news for people that have multiple units. It doesn't surprise me Garmin (and other manufacturers), troll the boards. It's a great source of feedback for them.

Interesting

Interesting thing, you need to have your device attached to computer at all times during the download.

It has to be attached to get the download started, of course, but I select the copy to computer only option and the new save a copy of the files button. The download started up and since nothing would be happening on the Nuvi I disconnected it from the PC.

Immediately the download stopped and asked me to reconnect the Nuvi and press OK to continue. When I did as directed the download started up again from the place it was at when I had disconnected.

nuvi must be connected during d/l

I found the same to be true with the old process too (Advanced option - d/l to computer only).

Are you sure?

Are you sure you have to have it connected? I unplugged mine during the download step and it kept going through until it finished the second step "Preparing Maps". It just sat there at that step until I plugged my device back in and then it installed my maps.

YMMV but that was my experience on my 255W. Not installing MapSource.
