How to Delete BP Gas Stations from the Garmin Factory POI list?

Is there any way to remove POI's from the GARMIN factory installed POI list? For example, BP gas stations.

This is not intended to be a debate on BP, but I am sure you get the drift.

In a word ...

no

gas

How about Citgo... they're owned by Chavez in Venezuela... after he strong-armed his way into Presidency he nationalized all the gas companies that companies from around the world built...

also you can always use Valero... they're a Texas company... why send $$ to countries that hate us?

I think I might have an idea how to do this.

I will need to look at some files at home but I think this can be done and I think I can figure out how to do it.

Yup, we can turf Citgo too!

Good Luck

Good luck with that, since the POIs are part of the map datafile it would be a surprise if you could do anything with it to add or delete anything.

Here's an idea

If you don't like BP, don't use their services. That's the way to send them a message

What about your neighbor who runs a BP station

Sure you'll send him a message-- you'll help put him out of business. Will you bother BP? Not a bit. Your contribution to their profits is smaller than a grain of sand in the ocean!

Don't buy there gas

To my knowledge you can not remove the built in poi files. If you could we would have a way to update the built in pois.

Just don't buy their gas or services.

Editing As Well

Editing and deleting the built-in POI's would be as I am aware of quite a few errors in my area alone. Unfortunately, any of those changes would be wiped out but a newer map update.

BP at indy stations

The gasoline supply is so co-mingled that it is not a productive protest. Independent stations also get petroleum products from BP, Citgo and all the other suppliers. are you going to ask each place you stop where they got their fuel?

The BP owners are typically Americal small business owners. They bought a franchise from BP and now are trying to stay solvent with their investment in a service station. You can help put that person out of business, but BP will not be affected. The same with Citgo. Chavez doesn't own those stations, Americans do.

Personally, I hope BP does very well financially. If they go under, the Gulf will stay paved with crude oil. Right now BP is still actively working to clean up their mess. I wonder if any of the other drilling companies in the Gulf would be as responsible. Bad mistakes were made. Other companies also take shortcuts, but the lottery landed at BP for the major spill. I hope everyone learns from this disaster and improves their safety while they supply us with our gas addiction.

I don't like them either, but that's what I thought. If they go under, who is going to pay for the cleanup?

Well said and factual.

to Dave817

Thank you for those comments. I agree.

What we have here is something that should be considered under this principle:

"The law of unintended consequences is an adage or idiomatic warning that an intervention in a complex system always creates unanticipated and often undesirable outcomes"

Better ways to protest..

As has been stated you are dealing with independant operators and some by the way are struggling to stay afloat because of something they had nothing to do with. Most gas comes from the same refinery and after it's in the truck some additives are put in to make it brand X, Y or Z.
If the gas station gives crappy service don't go back. Punish the ones that deserve to be out of business not ones who are stuck with the BP name on their gas station whether they like it or not.
How many statins you think would keep the BP name if they really had an option to switch?

Where I live

Where I live and I'm sure several others all the gasoline is stored locally somewhere in in huge tanks. It is all the same fuel until the trucks pick it up. As the fuel goes into the trucks is where the different chemicals are introduced for the specific brand. This may not be entirely factual but should be close for some locations. Now in other areas the branding may be earlier up the line.

It is simply the thought

It is simply the thought that counts.

U.S. Gov't could seize BP assets & clean up for the next 50 years. They do it with terrorist organizations, so they can do it at their whim to any other foriegn-based business.

The nearest BP to me is 300 miles away and the refineries that service this area don't use any foriegn oil - period.

But then this was simply about changing the built-in Garmin POI's, and so far not much success. But I do like a challenge.

The family used to run an Esso station, so I know how the business works.

.

As noted above, the preloaded points of interest are part of the map data.

You can't delete them.
You can't edit them.
You can't change them.

You can, however, ignore them. No challenge required. wink
