New to the site.

I have downloaded the rest area file which is in a Excel spread sheet format. What's the best way to make the file usable on a Garmin 1390T?

I am assuming that downloaded the file from the POI-factory rest areas combined location. If you did then you have a file that has a .csv extension (comma separated values). POI loader is happy to use this file directly and load it to your 1390T.

see page 50 of the manual for instructions on getting POI Loader

Alert

You can also learn how to specify the distance from the rest areas to trigger the alert and you can also include an MP3 or other format voice recording to play at the alert
