Can you believe????

They would put out new units with that many issues...who knows what the fixes will unfix. My Lexus built in unit which is four years old has never had to have one update to fix any issues and it works perfectly. I have a 1490T for my other car and rentals and like it very much also. It just totally amazes me of all the issues Garmin has with their units...Just read all the posts on the POI website and wonder how in the world they can afford to keep replacing unit after unit after unit, etc.

Am I

Am I right in assuming you have never worked in the software business? I have and I'll tell you it's pretty much impossible to test every conceivable combination of things people can do with these units so some items are going to need to be corrected once they are in the hands of many real users. At least we are dealing with a company here that fixes things instead of ignoring them (read Toyota) until they are forced to fix them by consumer uproar or the government.

I worked for a national electrical wholesale distributor and was deeply involved in creating software for a computer system dealing with inventory, billing, customer base, ordering, pricing, and on and on...I have had many electronic devices in my lifetime but have never seen such poorly executed new products as Garmin puts out. A few bugs...maybe but not to the extent they have. Yes they respond quickly alright 1 1/2 years to fix the 765T and according to many still not completely fixed...I own a Garmin and like the product but not the consistent fixes and updates. All you have to do is read the posts on this website to see the anger and frustration. Why have I never had a fix or firmware update for my built in unit that works perfectly each and every time? I don't know who the mfgr is but Garmin should try and hire some of their programmers.

Nuvi 37XX Software Version 2.50

It looks like they fixed a lot of bugs I didn't know I had.
The problem with Custom POI alerts not staying selected after saving is still not fixed, and NO map update.
I am taking a 2,200 mile trip next week and really want updated maps.

You're blowing it out of proportion. 18 bug fixes ain't that big a deal considering what the (advanced) device can do. Perhaps Garmin can rewrite the bug fixes descriptions (or lie about it - who would find out?) in such as way that users like you would see it as 2 or 3 fixes.

Bug fixes are a good thing.

Wait a minute....

It seems the garmin unit bugs continue to have babies is the problem...18 fixes is a problem by the way///my built in unit has had ZERO...I repeat ZERO fixes and that is how it should be...As long as there are those like you who accept poor quality they will continue on their merry way putting out inferior products on a regular basis...As I stated before I have a 1490T that I am reasonably happy with after a year of continued fixes...

How do you know your built in unit has 0 bugs? Are you saying your device is bug free because you don't see any firmware updates for it? Would it be possible that the manufacturer doesn't keep up with software/firmware fixes?

I don't believe there's such thing as bug free software especially the complex ones. They're there. It's just a matter of who is going to dig in to find and announce them to the public.

My 660 has never had a software problem

I don't know about the 760 or 765 but I have had one firmware fix years ago and only updated maps. The 660 works perfectly. Garmin did that one right!

Garmin bugSSSSS

Your right, don't necessarily believe everything you read...Maybe they attempted to fix +- 40 bugs and narrowed down the list to 18 ? Who really knows ?

For someone not being in the software/computer business and seeing the continuous updates for almost every single model in their lineup, I think that Garmin has serious issues that should be dealt with immediately.

Is it acceptable for customers who bought their 7x5 units with good hard earned money to wait more than 6 months for a fix concerning the touchscreen issues ? Personally I think it's atrocious.

My 760 has been rock solid from the beginning up to the present. It is always kept fully updated and the only problems have been the result of "operator error!"

Let's put it this way....I have never had a problem operating it. Not a single issue with anything to do with it...It operates exactly like the manual says it is suppose to..It also has voice command which operates all functions perfectly....If there are any bugs in it they died long ago...My four year old unit has had features that the portable units are now just coming out with...Besides it has perfect blue tooth, backup camera, nav system, etc....I can even find poi's by a phone number....You are way out of touch if you haven't tried a good built in unit. How about by voice command telling it to show Italian, Mexican, German, etc,etc restaurants, atm's, ice cream shops just to mention a few of the commands by voice. I like my Garmin but love my built in unit.

After stating it a dozen times...

We know you own a Lexus. Ooo. We don't care.

Stick to the thread topic for the unit at hand. Please.

Bugs aren't all that bad

Like the subject? Bugs are a fact of life but that is not say we should accept them. Some bugs are "better" than others. The touchscreen issue for instance is unacceptable as it is a fundamental part of the unit and its operating features.

Other "bugs" are not so critical(?) (i.e. issue re the EUL agreement displaying at night).

One of the keys here is that we (Garmin users) are not the typical user - we are the power users, we are the ones pushing the enveloppe on the products capabilities - in short we are the ones that find the errors (and "crumbs") that all the testing in the world didn't discover.

Should there be fewer bugs of a critical nature - absolutely! Should Garmin do something to ensure a bugleess product - fundamentally yes!

However, look at the other products Garmin sells and I wonder where they should ensure the product is absolutely error free - airplanes and boats come to mind!

Let's keep reporting the bugs and lets hope Garmin continues to provide the fixes for the masses!

IMHO

I forgot that one, but it affected nothing as far as I could see & the thing still is working great. I want a 3790 for the new car but until the price comes down, the 2 cars have to share the same GPS.

Who knows maybe they have the competition doing weird things in testing to copy things. Well who knows only the Shadow knows.

Got 3790 Today

I just got the Nuvi 3790T and haven't had time to play with it yet, but I did update the software to 2.50 and will update the maps tonight when I can do it without getting FAPed.
