Checking power to Garmin 755 mount

I've got a 755 that won't charge in any of our vehicles. The fuse in the cigarette adapter is ok (I changed it anyway). I want to know if it is the charger OR a problem in the mount itself. Has anyone tested these with a multimeter to determine which one is bad?
My alternative is to just get a regular car charger that works through the mini usb port.

Don't know

about the multimeter test, but I think you will not be happy powering through the USB. You will not get full screen brightness when powering the 7x5 this way, and of course you will lose the traffic service if that is important to you. Also, you need to be selective in the USB power supply you get. Some of them will boot the nuvi in storage mode, while others will correctly power it up into navigation mode.

If you know someone else who has a 7x5 unit, you could troubleshoot the problem by swapping their components (power adapter, cradle and nuvi) one at a time to isolate the problem. Or try calling Garmin even if your unit is out of warranty. They have been known to send out a new power cable or cradle.
