POI Display Clarification

Hi. I have a Nuvi 1490T. I've done a lot of searching for information on what you can do with POIs, and it would seem that what I want to do cannot be done. If anyone has thoughts on this I would love to hear them.

I would like to load POIs onto my 1490T, and simply have the POI icons display on the map (3D mode). I don't mind having to set a high proximity value, but I don't want to have to be on the same street, save all the POIs as favourites. Also, I don't want any alerts displayed on the screen.

Basically, when I am on a road trip drive down the highway I (or more safely, my passenger) just wants to see that there is an upcoming Costco or Starbucks. An alert isn't a deal-breaker, but I definitely don't want to have to have to define all of these POIs as favourites. From my tests so far, I am only getting alerts for the POIs which I have marked as favourites. I guess if they have to be favourites, then my next question would be is if POIs can be tagged as favourites in the files going into the POI Loader.

Thanks.

Custom POI icons will

Custom POI icons will display if you are zoomed in to 200 or 300 ft level. You will need to download a bmp icon file with your csv/gpx poi file.

If you want an alert, you can load with POI Loader in Manual mode and select the alert distance. However, you will get an alert banner on the top of the screen / map. You will probably want to load a mp3 sound file if your unit has a mp3 player / wav file if it does not.

If you want to be alerted for custom pois on adjacent streets you will have to use TourGuide alerts (add Tourguide in the file name
McDonalds TourGuide.csv).

You can load a gpx file into Favorites, but I think using custom pois is better.

Let us know what you want to do.

TourGuide Alerts

Thanks for pointing me towards TourGuide Alerts - I wasn't aware of this feature. It sounds like TourGuide alerts should satisfy me. I'll research a bit and then try it out.
