Yeah, but you could have gotten an 8gb class 6 for $16-18, $2 shipping
It IS a class 6...
...and if it didn't work in the Garmin, it would in my camera or my phone.

According To Garmin:
When I bought my 500, I specifically asked Garmin support about the SD card size in the 500:
"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. The largest SD card that you can put on the unit is a 4 gig SD card. It will not hold anything bigger."
As with everything Garmin says you gotta take it with a grain of salt. What they told me about the number of via points and way points was also wrong.
If you ain't got pictures, I wasn't there.
SD card size
I am not sure about the 500, but on some models Garmin removed the SD size limitation with a firmware update. So, depending on when Garmin told you about the 4 GB limit, it may have been correct at the time.

Egg on my face
I took out my MicroSD card because I forgot my USB cable and I wanted to swap some files. 'Lo and behold it was the 4GB card. I then checked my phone and the 8GB card was in there. Somehow I did a switcheroo on myself...and I don't even drink! Maybe I should start. Sorry for any misinformation.
