Easy way to modify route on Nuvi?

What is the easiest way to modify the route on a Nuvi 260? For example, it sometimes routes its trips along busy highways when I would prefer to take the turnpike. By the way, I'm pretty sure that the Toll Roads selection in the Avoidances menu was unchecked.

The above suggestion is a good one. Also, you can set at least one via point. So find a point on the turnpike and save it to favorites. Then use it as a via point. You can usually get a point on a road just by poking your finger along the road until something registers on the screen.

Thanks, charlesd45. But what about cases where you know a long stretch of highway is going to closed or under construction and you'd like it plot an alternate route. I've tried the Detour feature with limited success.
Thanks

Thanks, dminz. I'll have to give it a shot on my trip tomorrow.

The 260 doesn't have the route function option. So what dminz suggested would be the best method.
Check this post out and see if you may have option of more then one via point. Some users have found they do. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/19196 look for cbwatts post.

Thanks. I'm not sure if mine does multiple via points so I'll have to give it a shot.

You don't have to wait until you are actually on the turnpike to set a point there as a favorite. Just turn on you nuvi, finger move the screen image so that it shows the turnpike, then poke your finger along the road until something like an address, route number, intersection shows up, or sometimes just a little box. Press save. Then go to favorites to see the name. Sometimes it might just be a number. You can rename it. Then, after you set in your destination, tell the nuvi that you want to go to that point. It will ask you if you want to set the point as a new destination or a via point. Choose via point. Some units allow you to do that more than once for the same destination, others like mine do not.
